Ju House 聚家 — Local services in Borneo

Had a 2 day stop over in Semporna before heading to Pom pom island and found Ju House from social media. We booked a 1 day island hope tour to Mabul with them and was convinced by the rep to stay at their Hotel instead of the other Hotels in the area. Here's our take:

pros: hotel room was very clean and spotless staff put out an extra double bed for us for our 6 year old free drop off and pickup from Semporna town as the property was 900m from the docks free breakfast and coffee/tea has a washing machine you can use to wash your clothes staff restaurant recommendation was on point the island hoping was very cheap in price and decent experience very inexpensive package

cons: sound deadening is non-existent. walls were probably hollow drywall so everything your neighbor said was crystal clear. The main wall and door are single pane glass so everything in the atrium was loud and clear. At night people kareokeing or laughing was keeping us up both nights at 10pm. Not good for families or children who sleep early coordination wasn't very good between the property and the rep (or the property just forgot). There was no glass boat as advertised, photos we had to ask multiple times weeks after our trip before being sent, we were awaken early one day to be called on a trip we weren't going on, and forgotten for a ride to the jetty on our departing day (but a call to them and one of the staff drove us) customers had to wash our own dishes hot water system not very hot the rooms were very very small for a family of 3. With the extra double bed in the room, we literally had no place to step when we laid out our one 28inch suitcase.

In conclusion, if you are a young person/couple sans family or kids, this would be a good inexpensive place to crash for a few nights as you explore island hoping tours in the area. If you are a family looking for more peace and quiet when you sleep, stay away.

It’s my second trip here in Semporna, last being in May 2024. This time I brought a friend whom had never dove in Semporna and I chose Juhouse again to arrange all aspects of my trip here.

AnAn from Juhouse helped me organise and coordinate my airport transfer, hotel stay ( Green World Hotel) and dive trip. Her response is prompt and it turned out everything went according to plan. With her, I am assured things will go well. She showed concerned for us from ensuring we got onboard the correct car for the transfers to reaching destination to asking if I was well after she got wind that I had suffered seasickness. Thank you 👍👍🙏

Sky was always there for us, it was pouring and we couldn’t get a grab cab back at 10 pm. We message and he promptly offered us a ride back. On Friday afternoon, we suppose to grab cab back to hotel from the jetty for the hotel transfer , there were lack of cabs due to Friday prayer and Sky is there to help again. What more can we ask 😃🙏👍.

Things that were beyond Juhouse control: It was high season in September and I prefer to visit in April to May ( before May golden week). We also prefer boat for purely fun diving. Due to the high season, our boat was for multi activities like for dive trainees, snorkelers, fun dives. But the dive centres dive masters were great.

I booked through them for the Pom Pom island and Sipadan tour for our family. It’s so much worth the money. The guide was very helpful and nice. I had no communication issues with them at all. They were very responsive and gave good advice on food and local tips etc. On the dive tour itself, Jessica shoot us great videos and send to me right after I finish shower at hotel. She even lend me her goggles so that I can enjoy a fog-less underwater view, which was very thoughtful. Our guide sky took us to local fish market and showed us good fruit stand, which was my mom’s favorite. I’d highly recommend since when I don’t speak the local language and am not familiar with transportation and all, they gave us peace of mind. I already recommended...
