Grand Bay Suites — Local services in Isle Mauritius

Just returned from this property! We stayed from the 26th Jan, and lasted two nights of a one week booking.

Unless you like cockroaches, prepared to accept staying in a property which is tired and run down, and poorly maintained, avoid at all costs.

We booked for a week, and had to leave after the second night as previously mentioned. The pictures are out of date, and probably taken using a magic wand! Because it doesn’t look like that now.

Four cockroaches, cooker only had one ring working, toilet seat broken, very flimsy. Couldn’t open the shower door because it was catching on the floor, bed was extremely uncomfortable, quilt not big enough for the bed, so constantly fighting for cover. Only 3 coat hangers to start with, also the window in the bathroom was broken, so you couldn’t close it to stop insects coming in.

The air conditioning leaked water onto the floor, the lounge furniture had rips in it, basically need I say more!!

I contacted my agent to request a refund once arrived home, but basically the hotel denied there was any problem, and actually blamed me for the toilet seat!!

With reference to the 4 cockroaches, they replied by saying they offered me bug spray, which they did. That was just in 48hrs.

We was on a ground floor apartment, they offered a replacement, but accepted that we’d had enough, and needed to move on.

The only positive thing I can say about this property is the staff, with the exception of the day manager who just sat around all day on his phone. Especially the guy who booked us in on the day we arrived, only to find out he was the maintenance guy on a following day, he was very helpful.

When we left, the manager was really only concerned about what review we would leave. Fortunately we have stayed in Mauritius a number of times, and was able to find new accommodation pretty quickly.

We booked through Agoda, no help or support at all.

Our experience at this accommodation was extremely disappointing. The apartment furniture was in poor condition, and there were ants everywhere, even on the bed. The kettle and microwave & dished in the cupboard were dirty, and the air conditioners leaked into the wardrobe. On top of that, there were cockroaches, and the shower head was heavily covered in limescale.

Some of my travel companions faced similar issues in their units. Their stoves didn’t work, and alarmingly, worms were coming out of the bathroom basin at 1 of the unit’s. The WiFi was only available at reception, not in the rooms.

We had initially booked and paid for 11 nights but left after just one due to the unacceptable conditions, we were not refunded for the remaining nights or even partially compensated.

I strongly advise avoiding this...

Bon, je vais commencer par le commencement, l'hôtel est bien placé géographiquement. On n'est vraiment pas loin de la plage notamment Cuvette beach, Grand bay beach, et même Perebeyre beach, même si à environ 2 km. On a un supérette à 2 pas, ce qui est cool pour les achats quoique un peu cher sur certains articles. Super U à 1,8km je crois, donc bien placé. Par contre l'emplacement lui-même peut-être problématique car situé à l'intérieur d'une ruelle si je peux dire, d'une impasse, bon bref, t'as quelques places de parking, ça peut faire l'affaire. Sur l'hôtel, je vais dire ce que tout le monde a déjà dit, c'est-à-dire, un hôtel qui a énormément de potentiel, mais qu'on néglige. Les équipements semblent dépassés, le Wi-Fi qui ne fonctionne pas correctement ou parfois pas du tout,.c'est frustrant! Surtout quand on pense que ce serait un boitier 4g au lieu d'avoir des vrais équipements WiFi, c'est un peu...bref, les piscines ( au nombre de 2, 1 pour adulte et une petite pour les enfants...) qui ont besoin de quelques retouches, les chambres aussi! Ce serait tellement cool d'avoir une chambre un peu mieux décorée, d'avoir des équipements à jour etc..dommage. On a une cuisine équipée même s'il manque quelques ustensiles, le lit est correct niveau confort, coffre fort, dressing, four et micro ondes, TV, lit bébé sur demande, canapé etc. l'accueil a été sympa, les gens sont sympas, ils répondent à tes questions et sont toujours présents, les femmes de ménage qui passent faire le ménage tous les jours c'est un gros plus! J'ai passé 19 jours là-bas, sans aucun problème. Voilà. Comme je dis hôtel avec un énorme potentiel, joli je trouve, mais avec un bon rafraîchissement, peinture, remplacement de quelques équipements, parking refait, piscine etc etc, ce serait un des tops sur Grand bay !

Ps: l'hôtel est plutôt calme, mais on a une boîte de nuit à deux pas le weekend, on dirait qu'on y était 😁 et les chiens errants, faut faire attention surtout si on a des enfants, même si moi je n'ai eu aucun problème..ils passent leur chemin, moi...
