Review of my solo stay (3 nights August 2025) Location: conveniently situated close to beaches, busy area of Grand Baie and numerous eating outlets. From there visitors can easily catch a bus to travel to Port Louis or Flacq, or find skippers offering tours to islands such as Ilot Gabriel. Check-in: smooth, completely quickly without much fuss. The welcome beverage was refreshing. Room: I found it tiny, with the bed occupying way too much space. The balcony was nice to have. On the other hand the pillows were really uncomfortable and had my neck aching badly. The selection of channels on television was worthwhile and I had no issues with internet access or use. Room service: This was the single biggest issue I encountered during my stay. On day 2 housekeeping took away the water bottle provided by the hotel and failed to replace or refill it. And unlike other Beachcomber resorts such as Le Shandrani, there was no fountain at which visitors could refill their water bottle. I had to request a new bottle from the bar downstairs. The staff there appeared incredulous, as though I might be making up such claims just to get a water bottle. On day 3, yet again housekeeping failed to provide a new refill or bottle in spite of coming in to clean the room and make up the bed (which they did well). This time I could not be bothered making a request for another bottle and instead ended up buying one from outside the hotel. Dining: the selection of dishes for the à-la-carte restaurant was terribly unappealing, hence I went for the buffet all three evenings. The desserts were top-notch, and so was the selection of jams/preserves and bread varieties for breakfast (passion fruit jam in particular). I most recommend the chocolate-based desserts of theirs. Main course dishes were uninspiring, except for the woodfire oven pizza. Worst of all was the tandoori chicken, which was all colour but no flavour! Too many of the food options were fritters and fried snacks. Soups and salads were generally good. But on the third night they served a tomato cream soup which had way too much chili in it. That soup gave me heartburn as well as a burning sensation in the throat and a mild form of food poisoning. I've been home for three days and still suffering from these. Swimming pool: small but pleasing, well heated. Baywatch Bar: massive disappointment. The cocktails are expensive yet worse than cocktails or mocktails you can have for half the price elsewhere in Mauritius. It feels as though the hotel is not using the best quality of ingredients or spirits to make these beverages. Overall experience: felt okay but compared to nearby Beachcomber resorts which I have stayed at in the past, my view was that standards are lower at Le Mauricia. The place feels more like a 3-star than 4-star on the whole. For a small difference in price I would definitely recommend Le Canonnier or Le Victoria over it.

Holiday at Mauricia Beachcomber Resort: A Food Lover’s Paradise Our recent holiday in Mauritius was truly unforgettable, and a significant part of this amazing experience was our stay at the Mauricia Beachcomber Resort in Grand Bay. The resort’s outstanding location and exceptional staff contributed greatly to our enjoyment. From the moment we arrived, the check-in process was seamless and efficient. Our room was spotlessly clean and tidy, and we were fortunate enough to have a direct view of the turquoise waters of Grand Bay, with picturesque yachts and catamarans dotting the horizon. The Mauricia Beachcomber Resort offers a wealth of facilities for guests. It is perfectly situated on the bay and within easy walking distance to the heart of Grand Bay and the Super U shopping centre. The resort boasts three pools, including a large heated pool, and there are ample sun lounges for relaxing throughout the day. Guests can enjoy an on-site restaurant, a lively pool-side bar, and nightly entertainment. We particularly enjoyed the Indian and Sega shows, which were simply spectacular. The beautifully manicured hotel grounds are meticulously maintained, adding to the resort’s overall appeal. After a day spent exploring the island, the highlight was always returning to the magnificent main dining hall. The food was exceptionally presented, with themed food nights that kept each meal exciting. Mauritian night was a particular standout for us, but every meal was delectable and expertly prepared. The quality and variety of dishes were so impressive that I found myself gaining three kilos in just ten days! We extend our heartfelt commendation to the chefs, kitchen staff, and especially the main dining room team, who consistently went above and beyond to make our holiday memorable. Special thanks go to Backus, Vikash, and JayJay, who looked after our group each evening and added a personal touch to our dining experiences. Our stay at the Mauricia Beachcomber Hotel was thoroughly enjoyable, and we are already looking forward to returning in the not-too-distant future.

This resort is really comfortable and caters to families with staff all intent on making you feel welcome and their main aim is to ensure you are not wanting for anything. The resort offers amazing views of the ocean and the bay of Grand Baie itself. Whilst the beach infront of the hotel is not big it is certainly well located and provides a safe space for swimming and lounging on the many beach chairs. The pools are clean and offer a large area in which Cool and relax with the bar area close at hand for some much needed refreshments. Our rooms were part of the village which offers more of an apartment type layout and the village had its own pool as well should you wish to lounge around with the family. Spacious and well kitted out the rooms are comfortable. Bedding is clean and staff cleaning the rooms do an excellent job of it every day. The catering is varied and offers an assortment of choices that caters for most desires. Freshness and quality of ingredients should not be overlooked. The seafood is a stand out and can be recommended. The bread served fresh every day is also a must have. The drinks menu and bar are well equipped to cater for your needs and the servers are all very eager to ensure you remain hydrated. The hotel concierge is always eager to assist whether it be in the form of arranging transport ( always use the hotel to book a taxi anywhere they have the best drivers and the rates are provided upfront) to exchanging forex The spa is also a must and provides a great treat for those wishing to be spoiled and pampered. Activities are abound on the resort and the staff will go out of their way to ensure you are well informed and up to date of what is happening around you. Would we come back ? Yes we would for sure. Our experience was very good and we can recommend it to anyone with a family. Is it all our luxury? No but it is extremely good value service and well laid out offering that ensures you are taken care off. What it is is a resort looking to offer families a great time and the chance to make awesome memories

My husband and I stayed at Mauricia between 18 April to 25 April 2024 with some colleagues. The hotel is beautiful. It also serves a variety of of delicious local cuisine. My appreciation goes to Chef Coulou who made us omelette early one morning when we were in a rush for work. He was delightful and I think a treasure for the hotel. Our rooms were well cleaned and organised thanks to Pamela. Akshay was a polite and hard working porter. Thank you. The next best investment of the hotel will most likely be in training some of their staff on business etiquette and hospitality. This comment is based on the following:

Waiters in the morning looked miserable. When we asked for tea, a waitress just said OK and rushed past without coming back. Unless there is a fire, there is always time to politely address a request. I read in one of the hotel's pamphlets, that Beachcomber was helping to care for stray animals in the region. My husband and I were pleased to read that as we do believe all lives matter and we love animals. One thing that's important for the staff to understand is that what they say and how they behave during their working hours and on hotel premises must be a reflection of the company's values. They are in that time, the company's embassadors...This is applicable to every staff...from the managers to the cooks to the waiters...For dinner one night, I had a few scraps of meat left on my plate and I decided to feed it to two pregnant cats who came close. They were not aggressive and not bothering anybody. A manager that night (it was dark and I could not see his name tag), came to me and snapped "Excuse me, you are not allowed to feed the animals!" While I was shocked to be spoken to that way, I chose to smile and responded "OK, I am sorry..." He then walked past me, just to turn back to me 3 seconds later and snapped "There is a board other there!" After that he stomped his foot so the cat ran away scared.

The thing is - it is not about what he said but more how he said it. If he would have just said "Madam, we please request that you do not feed the animals for xxxx reason. We hope you understand". Acceptable reasons could have been "so as not to attract further stray animals" or "for safety of guests who might be allergic" or even better "the cats are fed appropriate food by our hotel already and guests feeding the cats food cooked for humans may not be best for their diet" etc. While we were there, we saw numerous hotel guests enjoying the company of the two cats. If asked, I am sure guests would have loved to even make a donation so these cats could be fed and get medical care. The cats also keeps rodents away from the hotel. Mauricia would not go bankrupt from feeding two cats. With a member of its staff acting that way, Mauricia failed to show that it truly cares for all lives and is missing out on an opportunity to get the appreciation of clients who are animal lovers. Not to mention, talking down to a hotel guest that way is disrespectful. An important thing to understand is that it is ultimately the hotel guests who are paying the hotel staff's salaries. Without guests, there is no hotel and no job.

This was our second visit to Mauricia and because of reason 2 above (the 5 seconds of disrespectful behaviour from that manager towards us and those two poor cats), it will be our (and extended family's) last stay at Mauricia. My husband will no longer arrange for his company's team members to stay there again during his annual visits to Mauritius. If asked by my high networth clients where they can stay during their visit to Mauritius, I will not recommend Mauricia or if they told me they were considering this hotel, I will tell them about my experience. While Mauricia, may have lost some future business when it comes to us, the best way to make up for it is for its staff to learn that they have to treat their customers politely and those poor animals respectfully. That's a way to reverse the damage and frankly position the hotel well as an establishment worth visiting...

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Mauritius Beachcomber Hotel for the first time, and it was a truly memorable experience. My trip was recommended by a colleague who had visited the hotel 4-5 years ago, and I can confidently say that it lived up to the high praise.

Room and View:

I stayed in a beautiful sea-facing room, which offered stunning views of the beach. The room was comfortable and well-maintained, providing a perfect retreat after a day of exploration.

Food and Dining:

The variety and taste of the food were excellent. Every meal was a delightful experience, with a wide range of options to choose from. Special thanks to Arwind, Doorga, and Charlotte from the restaurant for their exceptional service and friendliness. Charlotte, in particular, was very fast, cute, and hospitable. I loved her smile.

Beach and Weather:

The beach was fantastic and very swimmable. However, if you are someone who enjoys getting a tan and swimming without feeling chilly, I would recommend visiting around November or December. During my stay, the weather was a bit unpredictable, with short rain showers and occasional wind, which made it less ideal for sunbathing.

Staff and Service:

The staff at the hotel were incredibly polite, friendly, and helpful. Martina from Pilates was a real sweetheart, and Jake and Chris were just as fun and friendly. The spa was another highlight of my stay. I had two massages and a peeling rub, and the Balinese massage with Rita was exceptionally relaxing. Rita's skillful technique and perfect pressure made it one of the best massages I've ever had.

Entertainment:

The entertainment at the hotel was professional and enjoyable, offering delightful performances every night. As a solo traveler, I appreciated the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the staff, which made me feel comfortable and relaxed.

Tours and Activities:

I booked a private tour through Clarel, who was very helpful and reassuring. My driver and tour guide, Gino, was outstanding. We did a south tour, and Gino provided insightful explanations about the places we visited, the culture, and the history of Mauritius. He also taught me a lot about the island's economic situation, resources, and how people live, giving me a full-picture perspective. It was an educational and enjoyable experience.

Areas for Improvement:

While my stay was mostly enjoyable, there were a couple of areas that could be improved. The boathouse staff were not as welcoming and patient as the rest of the hotel personnel. As someone trying water skiing for the first time, I felt they could have been more explanatory and encouraging.

Additionally, I encountered some pushy sellers on the beach who repeatedly approached me despite my polite refusals. One particular individual was quite intrusive, asking personal questions about my relationship status. This, along with the persistent pareo sellers, was uncomfortable and deterred me from enjoying the beach as much as I would have liked. I am not someone who likes to complain to management, but I believe it would be beneficial for the hotel to address this issue to ensure a more relaxing experience for guests, especially solo travelers.

Conclusion:

Overall, my stay at the Mauricia Beachcomber Hotel was wonderful, and I would love to return. The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming. Despite a few minor inconveniences, my experience was highly enjoyable, and I look forward to...

My family and I have just returned from a holiday and can absolutely confirm this hotel is fantastic. I cannot fault it, from food / the room / kids club / pool / restaurant & bar staff.

My 6 year old & 2 year old loved the kids club. Although, the hotel does not cater for 2 year old I took him now and then for some of the activities which the carers welcomed with smiling faces. Everyday my 6 year old would look forward to the activities at kids club. Win / Illiana / Veena / Samantha are such wonderful carers. All activities they lead made my son happy and excited and looked forward to the next one. My husband and I were super happy because previously with other kids club at other hotels my son refused to go. With this on he did not want to come back with us. Hats off to the kids club, gave my husband and I a peace of mind.

Room: we had the family apartment and again cannot fault it. It was cleaned very well every day. Danielle set up the boys' beds so well by using towels to create animals which made my sons super happy and looked forward to entering the room. The room, bathrooms were cleaned and swept with fresh towels every day. We opted for using the same linen for environmental reasons so I cannot fault change of linen.

Food: we are vegetarian and the Chef (Wesley) went above and beyond to provide us with such wonderful food. We had our special food made every day for every meal. My husband would speak to the Chef about the meals for us including the kids. Chef Wesley and his team were fantastic. I don't know the name of the Indian chef, but I can assure you that if you are Indian wanting pure vegetarian food then you cannot go wrong here. The Indian chef made us such wonderful breakfast / lunch and dinner when we asked for Indian food.

Restaurant/Bar: absolutely loved the waiting staff. Very friendly and approachable. My boys loved and they help to take care of my boys while my husband and I would eat. If you can imagine a 2 year old wanting attention while you as a parent eating is pretty common. But the waiting staff really helped with this and it meant that we could eat the delicious food cooked for us. Most importantly, we were again at peace when my 6 year old would walk around the buffet on his own exploring and thinking what he wants to eat. The staff took care of this and helped my 6 year old. They also helped with my 2 year old who likes to run wild in open space.

reception: again, the staff here were wonderful. Every question answered. Right from tours to booking a taxi to the airport.

@ Mauricia Beachcomber Resort & Spa - I have just mention the few names above unfortunately, I cannot remember all the names of your staff. I would like to say that your staff are biggest asset here. If it wasn't for them, we would not have enjoyed our holiday nor the above review would be given. I'd like to personally thank all your staff named or not named for a fabulously holiday.

I look forward to seeing you...
