We have dived several times in playa del Carmen and Cozumel. The first time we dived in Cozumel was through a dive shop in playa del Carmen. After finding this local dive shop —- Cozumel Divers in Cozumel, we have been diving with them since. They offer small group, delicious food, and always assemble our gears for us before going into the water. We saw a lot of sea turtle on the second day of our dive this time. It was awesome except that one of the divers did not follow the guide and always try to swim ahead of the guide and often swim to somewhere else by herself regardless the guide’s several attempts to get her attention. We would probably be able to stay with the sea turtles longer if this diver tried to stay with the group so the guide did not need to go chase her all the time. —- normally, I wouldn’t blame other divers in the group as we all learn from our mistakes when we started. But this diver (Chloe Jo) left a really negative review here even though I think she was the person causing the unpleasant experience for herself.
I’d like to provide another perspective of the story as another diver on the same boat and on the same two dives.
She was not a beginner diver as claimed in her review: She said she got her advanced open water certification at Cozumel. Upon getting on to the boat, when the guide asked everyone whether they have dived here in Cozumel, she nodded and showed great confidence.
Not following the guide while the guide tried to help her several times: In our first dive, she had problem descending so the guide went to help her. She always kept a huge distance from and “ahead” of the guide even when the guide had told her several times to stay close with the group. If you really are worried then DO NOT try to swim ahead of everyone and claim that the guide did not lead the group! You were the only person ahead of the guide because you did not follow the guide. In our second dive, we went to the wall, and she kept diving at a depth that was at least 10 ft below the guide for no reason, and again stay ahead and away from the group. The guide, again, had been trying to get her attention by knocking the tank but she was not paying any attention. Honestly I was really confused what she was looking at 🤷♀️ After several attempts of getting her attention but failed, we were at a point that we had to swim through some formation. The guide knew that we would come through again from the other side so he guided us through and kept making noise to get her attention again, and she finally came to us this time. She had to ascend sooner than the rest of us and I guess that’s because she used all her air by staying too deep.
Unreasonable weight distribution request: She asked the guide to add the weight in a specific area that we’ve never heard of. We know the standard BCE and weight you get by rental is usually just with a weight pock, so not very customized. If you want to get more customized weight distribution, you should either get your own BCD or tell the dive shop in advance. The BCDs with weight pocket are much better than just using the weight belt which was what you get trained with when getting the certification.
I think if this diver requires full attention, she should have signed up for private tour or a discover dive instead of signing up for a dive tour for certified divers. Cozumel diver has been giving us great experience so far and I think this diver should be more considerate next time as she was on...

Just WOW! 🤿 The previous reviews on this one did not disappoint. Roberto & his team, the boat captain & first mate were absolutely amazing! We were a little unsure to do an entire day of diving, but Roberto was very communicative & encouraging to make it happen. We met at the Caretta marina (no gate, just a sign) Roberto had all of our gear based on the size as we put on the form. Everything was correct & fit well. The valet service was great. The first mate rigged are tanks & BC’s, all we had to do was a safety check. We wasted no time loading onto the boat & heading out about 30 to 45 minutes to the southwest side of the island for our first dive. We did 2 dives - one at Palancar Gardens, the other at Tormentos. Both were pretty spectacular, we saw an eagle ray & turtles. Between the two dives, we had our decompression time & a snack of fruits & water that was provided. Again, the first mate changed our tanks & re-rigged our gear. We got back to the boat dock with plenty of time to find a nice place to eat & a minute to rest before we headed out again in the afternoon. We met about 4:30, back in the same place. Once again, the first mate got everything rigged & we were on our way. Our first afternoon dive was a shipwreck dive. I was a bit nervous but Roberto was incredibly patient & checked with me often 👌🏼 as we swam thru the wreck. It was quite incredible. On all the dives, Roberto brought a GoPro to take pics & video of us & the dives. I’m super excited to see to the results to add to our memories. Saving the best for last & our real goal of the day, was the night dive. After fruit snacks on the boat & tank changes, we were in the water just before sunset. We literally went down with the sun 🌅 As the light began to fade, the reef came alive. We saw crabs 🦀 huge lobsters 🦞 a couple of sleeping sharks 🦈 turtles 🐢 bedding down for the night & octopus 🐙 We were supplied with lights & a dive computer along with everything else. It was perfectly magical & quite possibly the best diving we have done to date. I cannot say enough great things about Roberto & his team. They made everything easy & safe! Roberto gave a clear & concise briefing & was quick to get to know our abilities & range. My only problem was with the first mask I used, but even that was quickly solved with another Roberto had on hand. Several other shops were recommended to be. I am so glad I trusted my gut & chose Cozumel Divers!!! 🤿 Bonus: Roberto also gave us great restaurant...
Read moreA friend of mine, who dives with them every year, suggested I give them a try, and boy, was she right on the money. The guides are truly top-notch. They took us to dive sites that most operators rarely visit Devil’s Throat, Maracaibo, Cantarel, Eagle Ray Wall as well as the more common southern spots like Palancar.
One of the best parts is they only allow a maximum of six divers on the boat, which they split between two guides. That means you’re in a much smaller group, making the whole experience way more comfortable.
We dove with them for three days in a row. They picked us up right at the Occidental, and everything was set up and ready to go—practically brand-new gear. We didn’t remember how much weight we needed, so they estimated for us and even brought extra, just in case we needed more once we were underwater.
Our guide, Lobo, was there for us every step of the way, pointing out all kinds of marine life—from teeny-tiny critters to huge barracudas. The day we dove at Devil’s Throat, our boat was the only one in the area. Lobo went down first to make sure we were in the right spot and, after locating it, signaled the rest of us to descend. That dive was simply out of this world.
After the first dive, we headed to a gorgeous beach where we could hop in the water, surrounded by rays, while enjoying a delicious lunch before cruising off to the next site.
The entire team blew me away. I’ve dived in Cozumel before with other companies and wasn’t too impressed, but this time I found the gem I’d been looking for. A huge thank-you to everyone—I’ll see...
