Good value for the money but I admit it wasn't exactly what I expected - perhaps I should have looked at a brochure or read reviews on line instead of trusting the sales pitch on the malecon. The boat left approximately an hour late due to cruise ships so maybe that impacted put activities but I was there to snorkel and enjoy the use of paddleboards and kayaks. The morning boat ride was long and the sun wasn't so hot yet. They took us to a shoreline just before we reached Yelapa and gave us 15 minutes at most in the water (including the time it took to corral all the snorkelers to the "spot"). We had to wear life jackets around our waists and were not allowed to go near the rocks (which I'm sure is where the life is). The water was silty and stirred up but we did see a school of beautiful blue fish. I thought we were gathering to go to where the good snorkeling was but as soon as we all were together we were told it was time yo return to the boat!! If you are a timid snorkeler and just want to say that you did it, this might be fine for you. Our use of the water toys included being allowed to circle the boat two times in a kayak then it was time to go. What a tease!!! Yelapa was beautiful, though, and I enjoyed my time wandering off alone to explore the area on the beach away from the restaurants and shopping they wanted us to patronize. The lunch was served on the way back around 3pm after my family had already bought food from the waiters on the beach. The lunch was good, though, especially to me since I had waited for the included lunch. The ride back was better as it was warmer and we saw an incredible school of dolphins. The most I think I've ever seen in my life - and I've seen many so believe me, it was significant! They were bow riding and surrounding the boat for 10 in so minutes. A joy! Also on the ride in the morning we got brief glimpses of two whales and I spotted a turtle. The ride back was upbeat and there was music and dancing and my youngest son had a blast joining in the dancing. Our drinks were always full and the crew was extremely attentive to our needs. I was just disappointed not to get a good snorkeling and kayaking/paddleboarding experience. For novice water people who just want a fun boat ride to Yelapa, this trip is perfect! I was quite pleased that the trimaran was not crowded so you could move about and not feel crushed in a crowd. Overall, it was a fun day - just know what you're getting into- don't expect hours of eco exploration on your own. Don't expect top shelf drinks or even real orange juice. It's a day of boat riding, beach time and music and social time. Very kind and...
Read moreThe Worst Tour Experience of My Life
If you’re looking for a way to throw away a grand and endure a miserable day, look no further than Beach Boy Cruises. This tour was an absolute scam and, without a doubt, the worst experience I have ever had.
To start, the tour is outrageously overpriced. For $200 per person, you'd expect at least some decent food, a well-organized itinerary, and professional staff. But that couldn’t be further from reality. Their so-called “breakfast and lunch included” turned out to be one sad scrambled egg and a single hotcake for breakfast.
The boat was slow, stretching the trip to ridiculous lengths, and conveniently, the crew kept everyone starving and thirsty. After the disappointing breakfast, they held us on the boat without any access to the sights we paid for – like Cactus Island and the Hidden Beach – for hours. Instead, they kept pushing extra “add-on” tours, asking us to pay even more. It became clear their main focus was to upsell whatever they could rather than actually delivering the experience they advertised.
When we finally started realizing we weren’t getting what we paid for, we confronted the crew. They just gave excuse after excuse. They even refused to let us go further than a few meters around the boat on a kayak, supposedly because of “safety” concerns. With no food, no water, no shade, no music, and no beer – they left us stranded for over three hours.
As people became sick and others caught on to the scam, they finally offered a “rescue” boat for an additional fee. I paid $100 for this so-called rescue, thinking they’d take me back to Puerto Vallarta, as promised. Instead, they dumped us two hours away in Punta Mita, forcing us to pay another $100 for a taxi back. When we tried to contact them, no one answered the phone, and no one was there when we arrived at the port to sort out the mess.
By the end of the day, the expenses were absurd:
$200 per person for the tour
$5 port insurance (whatever that is)
$20 for a Marietas Island ticket (not even included in the tour)
$20 on snacks (because they purposely didn’t provide food)
$100 for the “evacuation” boat
$100 for a taxi back to Vallarta
$20 for parking at the port. (This prices are per person)
We ended up spending nearly $1,000 after all the unnecessary extras, and the emotional toll was far worse – our entire family was left exhausted, frustrated, and even sick, requiring medical care.
Avoid this company at all costs. If you want to see the area, go directly to Punta Mita marina, where locals offer honest, friendly tours for just $15. For anyone considering Beach Boy Cruises – don’t fall for the trap...
Read moreI would give this 3 out of 10 stars. We took the tour to Las Animas Beach because we were told that it would be the best for bringing our baby. That was NOT the case.
The boat is super old and the waves were crazy. I was told my son could walk around the boat, but there's no way be would've been able to keep balance and the railings on the side had huge gaps. So I had to hold my busy toddler the whole time or keep him in the stroller. The chairs are just basic plastic lawn chairs, and a larger couple fell backwards when we caught a big wave. They hit the back of their heads and the crew helped them up and joked "no more tequila!"
The breakfast was just ham eggs and pancakes and fake juice.
So many people were sick, including my husband. And no, we dont drink so it wasn't that. What I didn't like is the crew gets you hyped up which is a lot of fun, but then once you get to the first stop to snorkel THEN they proceed to tell you it is not good for kids to snorkel and can be dangerous etc. Even though they just got everyone excited about it. My son isn't even 2 yet, so only my husband went and he said you couldn't even see anything in the water so that seemed like a wasted experience.
Once you get to Las Animas beach, you can choose to go on the waterfall hike or stay on the beach and choose other activities (which cost more money). Almost everyone stayed on the beach and didn't go on the hike because almost everyone needed to decompress from the sea sickness.
OH and they didn't say you needed to get on a tiny little boat to even get off the big boat to go to the beach. They only had one boat to transport everyone so it took about a half hour to get people off and then later back on. The waves were crazy and one lady's legs did the splits going from the big boat to the little one. And they didn't warn you before that your fingers could get pinched between the boats either they just start yelling if you put your hand on the edge. The crew is very impressive and helpful loading passengers though. You have to get out in the shore so you will get wet.
The lunch was okay, nothing spectacular. The staff drinks the whole time, so expect service to be slow. The ride back was also very sickening and the music is so loud. I asked them to turn it down and they did so for ten minutes maybe. My baby was screaming at one point while the crew just partied and hyped up the crowd for tips.
This is not suited for young children, toddlers or babies. I would only recommend this tour for adults and even then it wasn't even that enjoyable. Unless you want cheap drinks and sea sickness...
