Profitability Group review Sales have decreased from 2021 to 2022. In 2021 sales were $3.414 billion and in 2022 it was $3.294 billion. (page 62). Employee wages have been the biggest expense for the past two years. It has decreased by 6,737,000 in the past year, which would cause profit to benefit from it.
Warehouse
For The Warehouse in 2022 sales were down %3.5 compared to the previous year. Also, gross profit was down %8.5 from This year compared to last year. Both of these are down because of the COVID-19 lockdowns at the start of 2022. But, now since Covid is now under control and there have not been any outbreaks in almost a year this issue most likely won't happen again. This means that 2023 sales and gross profits will both be more than the previous year. The Warehouse is where most of the profit comes from in The Warehouse Group. In 2022 they had $1.72 billion in sales.
Warehouse Stationery
Warehouse Stationery is a leading supplier for small businesses, they had $249.7 million in sales in 2022. 35 of their stores are “store within a store” where the Warehouse Stationery is inside of The Warehouse store. This helps sales because people walk into The Warehouse and end up walking past/through the Warehouse Stationery store as well. With more people in the store, more people will be buying items. The click and collect at Warehouse Stationery has increased to %25.6 of online sales. To help with the added demand of click and collect at stores they increased our Click & Collect availability across the store network. On books, calculators, highlighters, pens and pencils they have started printing the Maori labels on each item. This is to help New Zealanders learn more Te Reo words and feel more comfortable using them in daily. This gives them a better reputation since other companies don’t do this.
Noel Leeming
Noel Leeming is New Zealand's number 1 electronics retailer with a profit of $53.9 million in 2022. For their customers, they provide In-Home Tech Support. This means if a customer is having trouble with a device a tech professional will come to their house and help them with whatever they need. This is great for Noel Leeming since if a customer wants a product but doesn't know how to use/set it up Noel Leeming has people to help them. Another thing that is beneficial for Noel Leeming is one hour click and collect. This puts an item on hold for a customer who can then collect it an hour after they place the order. They can book it for multiple days too. This is good for Noel Leeming's reputation since competitors only provide this for a few days in advance, whereas Noel Leeming can do it on the same day. At 16 stores they provide e-waste collection, where people can throw away electronics into an e-waste bin where it will be recycled. It helped remove 83 tonnes of e-waste from landfills. It is a great way to save electronics from going into landfills and polluting the environment. This is great for their business since it shows that they are environmentally conscious. Customers would want to support a business that looks after the environment so they would be more likely to purchase products from this company rather than...
Read moreSome specials are not available here . Full price here, but if you go to other Countdowns you will find them on special also to many out of stocks that are available at Eastgate Countdown the prices go up every day, yesterday tomatoes $8 kg today $10 and they had heaps yesterday so not new stock. Come on Countdown don't you think you should be looking after your customers and not ripping them off just been again and tomatoes 19.50 kg ,stock levels still very low or out of stock it shows by the lack of customers, makes me wonder how it survives and how long for with new competitors coming soon Went there a few times over the last couple of weeks and the Disabled parking has been closed off but nobody working there, might be easier for some people to shop elsewhere if they have mobility problems and as for the orange card it brings the overinflated prices to a lower cost but still more expensive than the competitors. I can't understand why people support an Australian supermarket chain when we have our own and it's...
Read moreTidy and well laid out, but I'm surprised at the amount of single-use plastic packaging still in use here, particularly in the fruit and vegetable section - some popular items are only available in plastic packaging (mandarins, garlic) and other gob-smacking items are sold pre-packaged such as plastic wrapped diced vegetables. Fish is also mostly only available packaged in copious amounts of plastic. While the rest of the world is moving on, this Countdown seems to be going backwards on packaging, so best avoid if you're into sustainability...
Updated August 2024 - plastics are even more common now, and fresh fish is no longer available without plastic. Looking at their website, they claim to be working towards eliminating single use plastic - my observations, supported by a recent Consumer NZ survey, indicate that this is just greenwashing. We've now decided to boycott this shop and do our main supermarket shop elsewhere - a pity, because...
