Kenzo Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Christchurch

I went there from Halswell just to try the food because of all the reviews and, of course, to support locals. Long story short, I arrived at 4:00 pm and I couldn't even step into the place. They stopped me immediately from entering. A rude man sitting inside with a computer told me they close at 5:00 pm. Understandable, but it was only 4:00 pm! Then, I asked if they had any food for takeaway, and he answered they were on their break. I completely understand that employees need a break; I've worked in hospitality before. However, the lack of sympathy made for a really bad experience. They had a lot of signs saying the store was open. Why? Poor service, you feel unwelcome. I'll never come back. Not even a sorry!

Luckily, I found KO1 Cafe close to this store. A kind lady offered me food to take away. She was closing the store and I apologized for interrupting her, and offered to go. She insisted. The difference between arrogance and empathy and a good customer...

This ramen took me straight back to heartwarming and flavourful memories of our honeymoon in Japan. This is the most authentic and delicious ramen we have had in Aotearoa New Zealand! Beautifully presented, rich broth, chewy noodles, meat that melted in your mouth, fresh toppings. Every element was perfect. My only regret is that they were sold out of the spicy miso wagyu ramen, but I look forward to trying it next time!

Took my partner here for a celebration dinner. Hands down the best Sashimi platter we have ever had in NZ it was extremely fresh with excellent range and presented perfectly. We also had the white fish and tuna Nigiri, The Kenzo roll and beef Tataki which were all extremely delicious too and considering we typically avoid fried food the Kenzo roll would normally be something we would avoid but damn that shi bussin.
