We joined this gym over 3 years ago. At the time I was advised by the staff to make the membership in my daughters name as she was 17 and could only attend unaccompanied if it was in her name. I was told it would not limit my access in any way. Since then I have been paying all fees and attending classes regularly. Now it turns out it makes a big difference and I can only go if she turns up in person and signs me in. However she is now a student in Christchurch so that is a bit difficult! Apparently to change the name on the membership I (she) has to give 4 weeks notice (during which no-one in our family can use the gym) AND pay a further joining fee of $49. Pretty unreasonable if you ask me after happily taking over 3 years worth of membership fees from me! On top of this they have moved the gym to a new suburb with the expectation that all membership would just resume there even though it is out of the way for many people. I have enjoyed the classes and instructors at the gym. My advice is to make sure if you are paying the bills your name is on the membership or you might be denied entry regardless of what the staff tell you when...
Read moreI’m writing regarding it was worse experience at City fitness Newlands. The lady name Jules ( half coloured hair) very Racist as I came to gym she didn’t check anyone else booking as the gym was empty but as soon as we walked in she spoke with us very rude and asked where is your booking , you need to do booking blah blah blah. We pay money to use gym facilities as we all do want to do workouts. I didn’t know people still treat you because of your skin Colour. When i advised her that When I can’t book from my phone i usually turn up and ask staff if its not busy they let me go but no with this lady. Seems like she was taking her anger out on us. Very Very Disappointing I wouldn’t recommend , if that happens again I would take further action. Please hire staff who are willing to work not taking their frustration out on customers and its not beneficial...
Read moreCityFitness has consistently shown a lack of empathy and professionalism. When my wife passed away, they continued charging her membership and sending insensitive emails, making an already devastating time worse.
Most recently, after publicly humiliating my 12-year-old son and me over his age, instead of handling the situation with respect, they’ve now gone ahead and canceled my membership entirely. This decision speaks volumes about their priorities—they’d rather silence dissatisfied members than take accountability for their actions.
If you’re looking for a gym that values community and compassion,...
