Thai Tara Johnsonville — Restaurant in North Island

Had an incredibly disappointing meal from Thai Tara Johnsonville. Portions/value for money was good - but that was the ONLY positive thing.

We ordered Spring Rolls, Beef Noodle Soup, and a Penang curry.

The spring rolls were soggy and soft - like they had been microwaved instead of deep fried – truly disgusting…

The beef noodle soup had a flavorless broth, and pale slimy cuts of beef. The rice noodles were the best part…

The Penang curry (chicken with extra veg) was terrible. There was no range of flavors, it tasted like coconut milk and curry powder. The chicken was jelly-like, and had no texture… I believe it was fully cooked, but not 100% sure on that… I ordered it Medium heat, yet there was not even a hint of spice. The rice was definitely the best part…

I went to Thai Tara in the Wellington CBD a few weeks prior, and had a delicious and satisfying meal, which was packed full of flavor, spice, and what felt like quality ingredients. I cannot understand how terrible the quality of food at the Johnsonville store was. How does the quality slip so drastically, despite the stores being only 10km apart??

Visited here with my family. Service was really good even though they were busy. Lots of take away orders going on but we decided to eat in. The entrees were spot on. Freshness 5 out of 5. Taste was fantastic. I had the home made spring rolls - kids had the squid rings and they ate everything on the place. Mains were amazing too. I had the Panang Curry with chicken, and after others tasted mine, they all wished they'd ordered it too lol. Meals came out a little staggered but they were busy and only have a small kitchen so that is understandable. All entrees came out at the same time. We were offered free water right at the beginning and this was well chilled. Pricing was excellent. Very good value for money. I would eat here again with no problems at all. Other tables were immediately cleared and well cleaned too which is great to see. Has a nice atmosphere with lo-fi music, nothing too loud. I see some bad reviews - but perhaps they have changed ownership now... I suggest...

Worst service ever. We booked a dinner meal online that told us it'd be ready in 35 minutes. Turned up 35 minutes later to be met with 7 other people all waiting for their meals. Some were so frustrated, one began asking why they didn't message people to tell them that they were so far behind. I waited 20 minutes before telling them to cancel it and walked out, so I have no idea what their food tastes like. But nothing's worth the 1.5hr wait that another lady had endured before she finally got her meal and stormed out cursing. Now, I'm all too familiar with unorganized kitchens, and some can be worth the wait (not over an hour, I don't care how good they think they are), but what I won't tolerate is bring lied to. Anyone who asked how far away their meals was got fed the same b.s line: "our internet is running slow, so we just got everyone's orders. Can you wait another 15 minutes" That's when I walked out.
