Kia ora whanau!
If you've been away from New Zealand for awhile, there's nothing quite like coming home and treating yourself to some Traditional Kiwi Kai!
Kia ora, if you are a tourist to this beautiful country and want to experience some of the food and culture of New Zealand...you must try some delicious traditional Māori kai!
Every time I come back home, the first thing I do, is call into Traditional Kiwi Kai, for some Boil-up with brisket, watercress and doughboys. Hangi with cabbage , pumpkin, kūmera and stuffing...He tino reka te mītī...and some warm fry-bread! Mmmm
Also some delicious kaimoana! Raw-Fish in cream, lemon and onion. Freshly shucked fat kutai...Green Lipped Mussels in their own juices, manuka smoked Mullet and Paua. He Reka!
Simple pleasures done really well! Ka pai whanau!

Read moreBoil Up was yum as always; The Hangi was ok, it needed seasoning before cooking, and was a bit too soggy; Chopsuey had far too much Ginger, otherwise would’ve been nice: The Seafood Chowder was a disappointmen , hardly any seafood, and what was in there was chopped up so fine, all we ended up with was a gluggy chowder. I’d happily pay more to get a few larger chunks of mussel shrimp and surimi along with a good sauce consistency rather than the gluggy chowder we got.. It just ended up in the bin.
Fry bread is always on point, a few work ons please Kiwi Kai, been coming here since you opened your doors. Last few times I’ve been, it hasn’t quite hit the mark. Arohamai for my honest review, my constructive criticism is merely to help the establishment improve where needed, not to hate on you fullas. Love your mahi and love being able to get my kaimoana fix...
Read moreOn google it says kiwi kai opens at 10:30, We got there to find out it opens at 11 but there was no harming in waiting a few minutes. (Mind you the door was open so we were confused) Checked again at 11oclock and double checking to see if they were open and when they open my partners mum asked "So what time do yous open?" And one of the ladies reply with "Uhh whenever we feel like it" In a really ugly tone. After happily waiting just for us to be let down because of one RUDE person is sad because I know kiwi kai is a lovely place as it's not our first time there. I do have a photo of her but I will not be posting in regards of the staff and their safety. Way to ruin someone's morning but arohamai...
