The fish at this restaurant was the worst I’ve had at any Japanese restaurant in New Zealand. Grilling with salt is supposed to enhance the natural flavor, but here, the fish was so fishy that I felt nauseous after one bite and had to spit it out, making me doubt its freshness. The sukiyaki didn’t achieve its savory sweetness from quality ingredients like kombu; instead, it was overloaded with sugar and MSG, leaving me very thirsty afterward. Overall, it was extremely poor value for money. I don’t recommend this place—the strong fishy taste left in my mouth made it feel like a waste of money.

We had such a beautiful meal here - the seafood was so fresh and succulent. They serve delicious, authentic Japanese dishes with excellent service and a warm yet relaxed atmosphere. Expertly prepared ingredients - beautiful knife work on the nigiri, gorgeous deep agedashi dōfu broth and perfect sushi rice. It’s amazing this place isn’t full of punters every night - one of the best restaurant we’ve dined in across the Far North.

The service was not that great, my freind and my partners order got mixed up with the other tables, and I had onion in mine when I asked for it not to be because I have an allergy. They were busy, however if they were going to be that busy they need to restrict the amount of tables. Due to them being understaffed instead of getting all the tables mixed up and things being forgotten. The steak however tasted good.

TLDR: DO NOT VISIT THIS RESTAURANT The waitress gave us edamame by mistake Owner tried to charge us. We refused and she got very angry and soon became very disrespectful and abused me Poor waitress probably had limited english communication skills. We don't blame her

I would like to share an honest experience I have had with the restaurant and its owner. I visited with my husband and 7 month old baby. I will try not to exaggerate at all, but the service here is very very poor and the restaurant does not treat its customers fair at all. I would recommend that you very carefully consider visiting this restaurant.

For reference, we ordered the tempura udon, lunch box, agedashi tofu, and three 2x nigiri sushi dishes. The food is average. Not great, not terrible. I would generally expect a bit more with a japanese owned japanese restaurant, but that's just my own opinion.

We got a small bowl of edamame. I thought the edamame was complimentary at that time. After a few beans, the waitress came and told us that this was given to our table by mistake. She then went on to ask us if we wanted to pay for it.

We clearly, told the waitress 2-3 times that we were not happy paying for it, and asked her to take it away. She did not seem to understand us, as she kept on asking us if we would like a takeaway box after we told her we didn't want to pay for it. She then went away and the rest of our food came. The edamame stayed on our table. We did not touch the edamame afterwards.

When we were about to leave, we found out that the edamame was charged on our bill. We refused to pay this, and a japanese female manager popped out. She became immediately very angry. Apparently the waitress told her that we were happy to pay for it. I explained the situation to her, but she kept on asking us to pay for it. Word for word, she said 'should I believe you? or should I believe my waitress?'. After hearing this, we absolutely did not want to pay for the $7 edamame at all and it was eventually taken off our bill.

Also, our 7 month old baby broke a glass spoon at some point during our meal. We informed the restaurant straight away. The waitress said it was okay. After we paid the food bill, the owner came back out to the hall and SHOUTED at us 'oh by the way your baby broke our spoon and you need to pay for me' and charged us 3 dollars! Lol.... (we paid it of course)

This restaurant's attitude towards us was absolutely horrible and we will never go there again. I encourage other people to...

My wife and I were customer last night (17-11-2022)in the dining room. I understand that they might be short of staff. We didn't mind we were given the choice of table of our own. We chose the table at a corner. After about 10 minutes, the waitress came to take our orders, then realised we were not given menus. A few minutes later, the manageress came. My wife ordered Teriyaki salmon. I ordered a H3, a $20 of Udong noodle. I got a call from my daughter. I went outside the restaurant. By the time I finished talking, my meal was ready for a while. I started to eat without realised the noodle was only a plain $13 Udong. I stopped straight away. Asked the waitress to check if this was the $20 Udong I ordered, because I couldn't find any egg, mushrooms the menu said it has. The manageress came and insisted that $13 Udong was what I ordered. I was quite upset, I definitely ordered the H3 $20 Udong noodle. The worse thing is the manageress didn't even asked what was wrong, straight away she said what I ordered was the $13 plain Udong as I was waiting for the solution at the time. I did eat the first mouth full of noodle then realised something was not right. But the manageress attitude on insisting it was my fault made me felt embarrassed and angry. I rang up half an hour later left an unhappy message. This my bad experience, not the food, not the atmosphere, but the...

Very nice food if you don't mind the wait. Wonderfully friendly staff. Booked table of 3 at 6:15pm, arrived on time, seated and given water and menus, ready to order 10 minutes later, so pressed button as instructed... waited another 15 minutes then pressed again (felt rude)... waited another 5 minutes and one of the wait staff were seating someone nearby so they asked if we were ready to order, took our order; was informed they didn't see the signal, (we could hear the bell go off when pressing the button...) No problem I thought, perhaps it's a bit busy, waited until 7:15pm, no drink was delivered in that time, finally we get drinks and half of our entrees, we devour it. waiting a bit more we get the other entree... half way through eating that we get 1 of 3 mains... since we're waiting we just go ahead and start eating it... 30 minutes later 1 more main mostly arrives (sans miso soup)... 1st main is almost completed by now, 3rd person getting hungry so we're giving them some of the other 2 mains, nearly 2 hours in we gave up on the 3rd main and paid for what we had and left... (other people had been seated and served various things in the time we...
