Alpine Sports Adventure Store — Local services in South Island

Alpine sports shop in methven was great to hire snow gear from. The people were extremely helpful and easy to deal with, I’d recommend them all day long. Unfortunately the chain hire shop at the base of the mountain was the opposite from the shop. 1 out of the 3 people working in there was semi helpful. The young girl should not be working behind the counter or anywhere in customer services as she was rude and some what strange to deal with. When I asked for a bit of help with the chains as I’ve never put them on before the answer was, no we don’t help but u can watch a video. So after 40 mins of struggling with these chains a couple next to us came over to help us out. After our day of skiing we returned the chains and still the young girl was strange and rude so I’m guessing it must be her personality. I won’t be hiring anything from these guys again...

I got to the base of the My Hutt access road today to find that the chain hire booth was closed. Alpine Sports organises the booth so I gave them a call and asked why it was closed. When the Mt Hutt Snow Report says chains only need to be carried they don’t have the booth open. I had asked the lad on the phone if they were based in Methven; planning on turning around and head their way to rent some. He looked to see if they had any chains to fit my vehicle in store which they didn’t, so he drove out to me at the booth to find me some to rent. The effort of him driving out to me to get me some chains to carry up the mountain was absolutely amazing, I was gobsmacked at the customer service! Thank you so much! 6 stars and beyond! We are beginners to snow sport and the staff really took the time to help us with the fitting, from the boots, boards, clothing etc. Complete set.

The mountain unfortunately closed mid day due to unforeseen weather and we had to return the gears early. They were kind to offer only to pay half price as we only rented the gears for a couple hours. They really went out their way to provide an exceptional customer services!! Probably the best I've had in a long time. Will definitely use their service again when we visit mt hutt...
