The true flea market culture is nearly extinct in Durban now....yet in the past, we were spoiled for choice.
Nowadays, we are saddled with folks who own shops in the city who bring their merchandise to the markets to sell...and we are expected to just accept that this is what a flea market is....
In walks Golden Hours...the only market to strike a decent balance between the oversupply of regular shops goods, and proper flea market goodies.
In essence, a flea market is a gathering of sellers who offer quality used goods, hand made arts, crafts, and goods, antiques and collectables, as well as home run industries who offer various kinds of services you can employ to upkeep your home, car or boat.
Let's not forget the foodies...home made cuisine and confectionery, quality fast foods, amazing forest like setting, with plenty of seating and great local entertainment every weekend.
The owners of this market have nailed it, and have done well to keep the place from becoming overrun with fake goods, regular shop merchandise, cheap electronics, etc.
Plenty of shaded parking (under the mango orchard), pet friendly, a great kiddies play area, great variety of stalls, and a great buzz...the Golden hours...
Read moreVisited the Golden Hours market on Father's Day. It was fairly busy but not overcrowded. The atmosphere was chilled and laid back. There was an abundance of stalls, catering for all interests from antiques, clothes, books, toys, and doggy goodies to incense, curry powder, magical fairies and almost every other thing you can think about. The market is unique in that it is set under towering trees, giving it a shady, peaceful and restful ambiance, that encourages ambling along the thoughtfully laid out stalls and browsing the items on sale , at your leisure.
The market is also pet friendly. With some stall holders even laying out water and treats for passing doggies.
Another great attraction is the talented crew that provides the awesome live music. They perform all types of music, from classics to pop. Their vibe encourages the audience to sing along.
There is also a kiddies play ground, with jungle gyms, small climbing walls and other fun activities to keep the young ones busy.... For hours, if need be!
All in all, the Golden Hours market is an ideal place to spend a few ' golden hours', get something to eat, take in some great music and pick up a few bargains ,on a...

Great to browse around and buy the various things and niknaks or bric a brac. For me the food stalls are the great attraction, after the music! The only challenge is getting there early to be able to secure a table. There is sufficient secure parking outside. The toilets seem clean and families of all ages can have a great day out and even take pets on leads along. Last week I even witnessed a dog drinking beer and enjoying it. The owner then topped up the glass and drank the rest. This was my second visit in two weeks and I certainly plan on bringing my elderly folks...
