A boutique guesthouse bursting with character! From the moment you arrive, it feels like stepping back in time to a charming, simpler era. The gardens are absolutely stunning and add to the property's serene atmosphere.
Gina, the owner, is an absolute delight! I stayed for one night on a business trip, as I work in the travel industry and wanted to explore her property for future client recommendations.
I stayed in the ‘French 75’ suite, which boasts incredible panoramic views of the city. The bathroom, with its floor-to-ceiling glass windows, offers the same breathtaking views—perfect for enjoying a bubble bath in style! The suite’s pink decor and retro finishings added a delightful touch of whimsy, and having a small kitchenette was a thoughtful and practical addition.
A special mention goes to Bella, the resident house dog (pictured in the photos). She’s a bundle of joy and even joined us for a cozy snuggle in our room—a charming perk of staying here! Bella is always on-site and brings an extra spark of warmth to the experience.
For those with mobility challenges, I’d recommend booking a room in the main manor house, as the ‘French 75’ suite is accessed via a substantial flight of stairs. That said, it’s worth the climb for the views and served as an unexpected workout!
The guesthouse is located in Houghton, a historic and picturesque neighborhood in Johannesburg with a rich character. For dinner, I visited Tortellini d’Oro, an exceptional Italian restaurant recommended by Gina—absolutely worth it!
The staff went above and beyond, particularly when assisting with our bags on those stairs—a truly Herculean effort that didn’t go unnoticed.
Breakfast was another highlight: a beautifully prepared omelette served with fresh ciabatta, yogurt, and fruit, all presented on authentic china in a cozy, elegant setting.
I highly recommend this gem for anyone visiting Joburg. It’s a fantastic base for exploring the sights and sounds of the city. I look forward to returning...
Read moreThis is a B&B like no other. The property is beautiful and old and romantic. The hostess takes wonderful and personal care of every guest, and for your stay, you become a part of the family. The food is fabulous: fresh, different every time, luxurious. The wine was generous and excellent. On my last night, there was a bbq and we guests sat around laughing and talking like old friends. I stayed in two different rooms while I was there: the bachelor pad, which is up a long set of outdoor steps and in a separate building, and the Princess Room, which is on the second floor of the main house. The bachelor pad would make an excellent writers retreat — it is secluded and utterly silent at night; it comes with a very well-equipped kitchen and a bathroom with shower. The linens are lavender scented. The Princess room was actually better for me because it is less isolated; it has a couch and desk and lovely Victorian furniture. The bathrooms are down the hall (equipped with both shower and tub) and I did not have any issues with waiting for access — there are plenty of bathrooms. The main house is huge and has many pleasant spaces for reading, lounging, hanging out, and taking pictures. There is an outdoor pool. Flashlights and some backup power were available for the times when load shedding...
