Mall of the South is a stylish and modern shopping destination located in the southern suburbs of Johannesburg. It strikes a great balance between convenience, variety, and visual appealâmaking it a go-to mall for families, professionals, and anyone looking for an easy yet enjoyable retail experience.
Design & Atmosphere
The architecture and layout of the mall are sleek and spacious, with natural lighting, wide walkways, and clean, open areas that create a calm and pleasant shopping environment. It doesnât feel overcrowded, even on weekends, and the modern design gives it a premium yet welcoming feel.
Shopping & Retail Variety
Mall of the South features a strong mix of well-known South African brands like Woolworths, Pick n Pay, Checkers, and Edgars, as well as fashion staples such as Cotton On, Foschini, and Truworths. While it may not have the ultra-luxury stores of Sandton City or Mall of Africa, it has everything you need for daily shopping, fashion, tech, and lifestyle.
Dining & Food Court
The food court is neat, with a good selection of fast food and casual dining options. Youâll find places like Spur, RocoMamas, Ocean Basket, and a few trendy cafes perfect for a coffee break or light meal. While thereâs room for a bit more diversity in food offerings, the essentials are definitely covered.
Entertainment & Family Friendly
The Nu Metro cinema is a great addition for movie lovers, and the mall regularly hosts kid-friendly activities and seasonal pop-up events that make it fun for families. Thereâs also a small indoor play area to keep the little ones entertained while parents shop or relax.
Parking, Security & Cleanliness
Parking is easy and plentiful, with both open-air and underground options. Thereâs a visible security presence throughout the mall, and the general upkeep is excellentâfloors are spotless, restrooms are well-maintained, and staff are friendly and helpful.
Overall Experience
Mall of the South is a great local shopping hub for residents in the south of Johannesburg. Itâs clean, calm, convenient, and complete with most of what youâd need under one roof. While it may not be as massive as some of Joburgâs flagship malls, it offers a far more relaxed, hassle-free shopping experienceâmaking it a favorite for everyday errands and weekend outings alike.
Highly recommended for those who want a sophisticated yet...
Read moreI went out there with my fiancee, she finds the mall an ideal quality space time. We went to Cardies looking for stationery and art supplies for my recent paint project. Only to find more extra interesting shops like PNA for your stationery needs to date, it was a cool experience, we got Kool supplies for our love of arts and crafts...
Then our shopping adventure began with a stroll in a not so busy "That's good"! Mall. The Checkers Hyper did not have so much energy drinks...blur!
Buy it was a very awesome vibe looking at interests and interests of goodies. Dope fun for a during the week experience and go for a nibble as we went to Simply Asia for a Thai cuisine, which was very interesting in blending cultures and taste...I got my self a stir fried rice with beef and prawn roll and my beloved wife got herself green curry and rice...which we ended with a sushi friend prawn snack...'delic'
Then we decided to look for postcards, which we couldn't find, however it was a beautiful experience to be at the mall which is clean and spacious for any business experience to sell their products.

Read moreI could just about count the number of visits to this mall since its opening on my 2 hands and still have fingers remaining. I totally dislike this mall, there is something very lacking, no background music, no entertainment area, no atmosphere.
The parking is only free for 15 minutes, from there on its R10 for the first hour. Supposedly we're able to claim the first hour parking free if we purchase something from either Pick n Pay or Checkers and scan the receipt at the pay booth. More often than not, this does not work and it's too much effort to go to their parking office in the basement to claim the free parking.
I absolutely avoid this mall unless I have no option.
Update:
I visited the mall for lunch today "Boxing Day", it's no better, even worse now I see a number of empty shops with their windows taped up. The mall management should do something before this becomes a ghost town.
Firstly, get rid of the parking fee like most of the malls have already done. Attract some exciting stores to become tenants there, the number of cellphone accessory shops should be reduced, that already tells us that the...
