Let's start with the good - the (human) guide was good. Not just OK, not blow-your-mind-out excellent. Good. Everything else was below any reasonable standard.
The audio guide app is terrible. The recordings are monotone, the map does not identify the locations, the pictures associated with the recordings do not always help either. There’s an option to download the recordings in advance, but then it turns out that these are only the recordings for the first section. You need to click on other sections to download their recordings. Once we saw that, we were away from wifi, at the mercy of dodgy signal.
The office service is even worse. We were 10 minutes late for the tour - our fault - google sent us on non-existent paths circumventing the Alhambra on its back side. We called to let My Top Tour we are late. We did not expect the tour to wait for us - that would not be fair to the others, but we wanted to let the guide know, and hoped to catch up with them, perhaps by skipping the first few stops. The guy on the telephone said he cannot contact the guide. When we got to the office located at the meeting point, they refused to communicate with the guide or to facilitate us joining the tour in any way. The only thing they were willing to do was give us our entry tickets and the audio guide app.
And even before that, the experience was unbelievably bad. We booked through our hotel, but the My Top Tour would not take payment through them - we had to wait for an email from My Top Tour with payment details. The email did not arrive immediately, so we went on our day. The email was not phone optimized so we decided to wait until we're back in the hotel to find the payment link in it. However, less than 20 minutes after the first email came a cancelation email because we did not complete the payment. In between these two, there was a different confirmation email. All of these emails had a bit of English in them, but were mostly in Spanish. Not a huge obstacle, but still not the way you want to spend your precious holiday moments. The cancelation email had a link, and a promotion code, for re-reserving. So I re-reserved. Then waited for the payment request email and went through their awkward payment system (including instructing my browser to accept their website's certificated even though it expired 10 days ago). All good? No. The day after, for some reason, they decided to cancel my reservation again. We spoke with our hotel reception, and they called My Top Tour, promised that our payment was cancelled and that we're back on the tour, provided we paid again. Hopefully at some point we’ll be refunded for the...
Read moreThe absolutely impressive complex of the Alhambra, stunning architecture embedded with rich cultural and historical meaning, definitely one of the wonders of the world, which we had the chance to visit with MyTopTours agency. The reason why I didn't rate five stars are basically two and I'll summarise below: we started the visit with a bit of a delay, even waiting for some late arrivals, and that led to the feeling that on some parts of the visit we were kinda' rushing to fullfill schedule. This could be corrected by adding 15mns more to the customer advised arrival time, going from 15 to 30mns. regarding the cultural and historical aspects of the visit, and this is just my opinion, of course, and as such it's based on my knowledge and won't probably apply to people with a lot of knowledge on the subject, I think there was some mix of information (by the way all very well explained by Natalia), but with a bit of a lack of chronological order - I fully understand this may be quite a challenge to achieve, due to the spatial sequence of the visit, and the mixed eras that can be testified in each monument, so one suggestion would be, for instance, that at the end of the visit there could be a description with a chronological summary of the main aspects of the evolution of the whole Alhambra 'complex', from 711 to 1492, and beyond.
All this is just a personal opinion. Congratulations to Natalia for her communication skills, knowledge...
Read moreFirst of all, I had the same problem that many people already reported: I booked a tour in English but there was only a Spanish guide. That said, even though I prefer English because I'm more fluent, I understand and can even speak a little bit of Spanish, so when the guide proposed me to join her tour, I accepted but asked for an audio guide as extra, in case I wouldn't be able to follow, and I have to say that the agency did everything in 10 minutes to allow me to join without needing to reschedule.
The tour itself, with the amazing Leticia, was great, she was fun and knowledgeable, but also very kind and welcoming. She's definitely a great asset for this agency. She explained everything in details, history and legends around Alhambra and the people who used to live there. She provided also good tips to enjoy Granada as much as possible.
I would say that for Spanish-speaking people this tour is recommended without a single doubt, but for foreigners who don't speak Spanish... Just be aware of the risk that the tour is not offered in the language selected seems to be way too high. My final grade is 3 stars because the tour deserves 5, but I can't forget that I could make it only because I speak a little Spanish, and it's unacceptable considering the price that we pay for it, and this is worth 1 star, which makes an average of 3 as...
