Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital — Local services in Madrid

I went to medical emergency in the middle of the night to seek assistance for an unforeseen issue which required immediate medical attention. Not a fan of hospitals, especially during the Covid time, but decided to trust the hospital Gregorio Marañón given the good name the hospital has in Madrid. The experience was among the most humiliating for the following reasons:

at the entrance nobody guides and tells you where to go. I would discover that there is a specific area for Covid patients, however, I had to find my way to the "non-Covid" entrance. The person at the reception did not ask me anything about the reason I was there (this might have been Covid and they would have not cared at all). the conditions of the waiting area are acceptable, well, you perceive that typical decadent feeling of all Centros de Salud in the country, but I think you would not change that in 200 years. The person who checked me was actually the most competent I encountered throughout the evening (Ruth): clear, fast and solution-oriented. moving to the patient area was the beginning of the worst: after 30 minutes I was finally asked to move to a separate area, in which 15 minutes later I would be greeted by Dr. Lara Vesperinas Neira, who justified the delay with the fact that they were busy in the Covid area and she told me she did not have much time because of this. When I briefly explained to her what the issue was, she started with some insinuations I found absolutely inappropriate for a doctor (and she doubted of my response, blinking at me when asking the question again). after I was visited, I had to realise that doctors and nurses actually tend to make you feel ashamed of the fact that you have done something wrong because they explained it wrong and justify any delay with the fact that it is your fault. the common areas are in very bad conditions, not clean, not cared, the toilet had stains in several areas, how can one feel safe in such an environment? as soon as my test was checked, the same Dr. Lara Vesperinas Neira came back to give me some feedback on the issue: not only shows the report some checks which were never done on me (how can one lie on this), but also she recommended me further actions to avoid the issue with inappropriate insinuations on my behaviour almost whispering on my ear. The person sitting next to me (2m security distance) could hear what she said and was horrified.

I have given 2 stars to the review as I was lucky to have some other patients next to me who actually made the long wait easier to go through. However, the hospital has serious issues with its cleanliness and its personal, it is absolutely unacceptable to be humiliating by a doctor when you are not feeling well. I hope that actions...

I’ve been to the this hospital last week. The government send me there to do a PCR-test. When I arrived, I talked to one of the woman at the reception to give her my information. I showed her my German ID-Card and surprisingly wouldn’t except it. She expected me to bring my passport, although I’m European. What ? After a while, she then excepted it but it still took her a long time to put all my information into the computer.

The whole visit at the hospital took me almost 4 hours. Now to the worst part (in times of COVID-19). Everyone was waiting in the same tiny room, with that I mean patients with and without COVID-19 ALL in SAME room for hours. How is that possible or even allowed? I don’t understand. However, after the waiting I could finally do the test. The doctor told me that I’d get my test results on Monday (i took the test on Saturday) by a phone call. On Monday I was obviously expecting a call from the hospital BUT they never called. Of course, I tried to call them myself to finally get my test results BUT nobody could help me. However, they did give me a number to call BUT nobody answered for 2 days. Today is Thursday and i still didn’t get any information. I don’t understand,, what if I am positive? They need to tell me, it’s their duty. I did everything I could possibly can. I have to say that it was the worst hospital that I’ve ever been in. I’m really deverstated.

By the way, I never wrote a review before but I’m so shocked about what happened that I just had to. I DON’T recommend...

Awful hospital and ER! I came in at about 3 AM as a foreigner (EU citizen) in need of some antibiotics as I had forgotten to bring them with me on vacation in Madrid. Despite not even being close to being overfilled, the average wait time for this ER was about 4 hours, or even more. I sat there alongside a woman whimpering and crying out in pain, an old lady struggling to breathe, etc. - Sick people having to resort to sleep on uncomfortable old chairs and not in the slightest paid any attention to! Kind of dehumanizing, to be perfectly honest. Thank God I did not have something actually more serious. After about an hour, the nurse came to the waiting area to check on me. Two hours have gone by and I was getting impatient. Nurses told me they had alerted the doctor. Another hour goes by, still no doctor in sight. At that point, we were all sitting there waiting for the paint on the wall to dry. Finally, at about 6:30 AM (!!!) a doctor came to fill my prescription. Yet it was not until about 7 AM that I could finally go home. The others still had to wait… Never go to the ER of this hospital unless you like to be ignored. Or if you like to look at the sunrise even though you went to the hospital in the middle of the night for...
