What a let down... My wife and I’s first time at a “Micheline Star” restaurant and we could not have been more disappointed. We were sat at a table that had not been cleaned yet and after waiting far too long for the old plates and cups to be cleared we finally asked the waitress to clear the table. She acted as if this request was an annoyance to her and only partially cleared the table. Next, both of our wine glasses had lipstick on them from the last customer. Come on really? Lastly, the food was mediocre at best. I have been traveling around South America and Europe for the past 5 months and have encountered so many restaurants that are proud of what they serve, serve a great meal and treat guests like family. To go somewhere where I am treated unfriendly and receive subpar food at a higher than average price is quite disappointing. I think guests are simply impressed by the Michelin Star rating and thus appreciate the food no matter what there actual experience is. Needless to say, after that experience we will be steering well clear of any restaurants with the Michelin Star notoriety. Do yourself a favor and find one of the amazing restaurants a little off the...
Read moreA Fuego Negro offers an very modern approach to the pintxos, serving their variations of the common street food like burgers or bucket with fried goods. The food is very tasty, but also pretty expensive for what they offer, the place is directed to the tourists in a extreme way.
Be careful with paying the bill because they will try to put stuff one didn't order in the check, once confronted about it, they turn extremely rude and aggressive. The problem is there is no control over orders, so one might end up getting other customer's bill. If you're not local, they won't treat you in any nice way (especially the bald gentlemen behind the counter - very rude, very aggressive), but in the other hand... The locals don't really visit.
It's a pity, modern place with tasty food and all the experience ruined by trying to scam. Pity! Think twice before visiting or count your orders carefully and be ready for a confrontation. I'd say not really...
Read moreThis was my first trip to San Sebstian and the food is simply amazing. A Fuego Negro was so good, we ate here twice during our 4 day stay. The first night we got in too late to try the tasting menu, so we ate the fried chicken and a few other tasty creations (don't ask me what they were). The second go around we did the tasting menu. Not only was the food delicious, but also the presentation was stunning. There was so much humor and creativity in the presentation and our server was delightful! San Sebastian is in the Basque region, so the menus are in Basque and the Castillian translations aren't always that clear and it's worse with the English translation. It was nominated for a Michelin star when we were there, so I have no doubt it received the honors and will be much pricier now. At the time, it was really reasonably priced with great...
