This is the worst out of worst experience I’ve ever had in Taiwan as a biker around Taoyuan train station.
Traffic lights were rare compared with other big cities.
If drivers knew to yield the space for pedestrians and bikers, it would have been fine.
But the drivers almost knocked me down or peeped loudly to scare me away from the road.
Stairs everywhere on the pedestrian paths.
You may think: “ if the road is dangerous, why not to ride on the pedestrian path instead?”
I was thinking the same thing until I realized there’s no way to ride on upstairs and downstairs with gutters in between.
The positions of the crossing line are weird and don’t connect with the pedestrian roads.
Sometimes it’s far away from the corner, sometimes it shares the space with U-turn waiting zone, so motorists need to ride on pedestrian lines to get to the zone 😂
The pedestrian roads disappear easily, which makes the width of the road fluctuate significantly.
Toooooo many illegal parking cars, some of them even parked on the crossing line!
Please don’t be a rider in the city if you want to...
Read moreI don’t see the point of rebuilding a new station right beside the old one, just so that we get to walk a few more minutes through the overpass to and from the new platforms, while the old rail and platforms just sit there with no signs of being used in any other way. The rails seem to have been removed but I still don’t get it, the original station did need some refurbishing, but why build a new one over it? Now the front exit is situated at this weird corner of a tiny road, instead of facing the large roundabout, and most of the people from the front must walk the extra minutes upstairs, which is better than the underpass but not by a great deal, it’s still crowded, the path still zigzags, and still not enough elevator/escalators. If the plan was to eventually include the original station, maybe after finally getting those rails underground, then this would at least make some sense, but it’s been years and I don’t see...
Read moreAs of June 2023, the train station operates the long distance and commuters railway. The rapid transit and subway system is still under construction. There are three entrances/exits: direct-north, northeast, and direct-south. The northern side merges into department stores and the commercial area. The southern side has parking lots, share bikes, and meeting areas for pickup. The ticket office, the railway bento shop, the customer service, the information, convenient stores, cafes, fast food, and a few shops are on the upper level. There are two platforms: #1 on the left for trains going south, and #2 on the right for trains...
