Maharaj Market — Local services in Krabi Province

A once great market turned good. Once a lively buzz and the center of attention in Krabi. In 2022 noticeable less push here. I wonder if this is due to the Covid lockdown. Still, this is the place to go to for fresh produce like fish, meat, fruits and veggies. The fish is separated into its own hall, and that’s considerate thinking of the people not standing the smell of fish. The market opens early… real early and seems to ease down around 10-ish. But many stalls hangs on until today’s goods are sold anyway. A few stalls sells clothes, souvernirs and miscellaneous. This is a proper Thai market. Outside you’ll also find carts selling different delicious foods. Come early and get your breakfast here, and grab all you need of fruits and foods for today. Fresh but not much is refrigerated or covered in ice, vegetables look good seafood is sketchy shrimp expensive,chicken is chopped up and presented on stainless tables not refrigerated,pork is in a separate building not my cup of tea, I go and buy at a grocery store,lots of fruit and truckloads of pineapples,huge ready to eat section,tiny servings,small people guess don't eat much There are dry goods and clothing in the back, floors are dirty and very wett,especially in the seafood area most vendors don't wear gloves when preparing food,some woman sit Barefoot on the food table working and others are eating on the table...

Alike a morning market. We went there to specifically find for curry paste (fresh / wet). We tried it when we went Phuket and determined to buy these curry paste from Thailand as the ingredients are freshly pounded. And it’s cheaper than those commercially available. The mixtures are also well balanced accordingly. If you are there, look out for this store as the lady could speak bahasa Malay, abit English and very helpful in recommending the right curry paste for you. Should try their panang and green curry.
