Attended charity fundraising abseil on behalf of Birmingham Parkinson's Society, using the Custard Factory's Greenhouse wall on Gibb Street, Digbeth. Safety was to the fore, with stringent measures in place on the ground, on the roof & for every abseiler. Abseilers went up the elevator to the roof in small groups, providing enthusiastic support as one by one they went over the edge & down the wall. Excellent training & guidance provided by abseil pros. Fascinating area around the Custard Factory, with many arty cafés, restaurants & shops, the area also famous for its graffiti artwork. Original cobbles cause difficulties for those of us with mobility issues (I changed shoes 3 times) but fortunately found a small car park with a single disabled parking spot (!) on Gibb Street itself. Suggest checking parking prior to arriving in the area, a mix of narrow 1-way streets, broader streets with on-street parking, & larger car parks a little further from the centre. Read moreAfter the Royal wedding i went there because I knew their was wide-screen TV for the wedding and football. Got there and everyone was sitting on the various seats with a variety of drinks. It used to be a vibrant creative space. Then I rented 311, a smaller room for my ',messy' art is collages, paintings. Then the Other two parts Gilleg and multimedia part opened. I attended a few events there. The original plans to have a lake, theatre, cinema, shops, gallery with artists seen at work, living space and the history bus visiting at weekends didn't quite materialise. Changes are afoot in Digbeth so hopefully a craft village...
Read moreSeverely disappointed. I travelled from Australia for a 3 week trip to England with my kids. One of the big events we had planned was to take the kids to see the world famous custard factory.
The kids, especially little Ronson, were tremendously looking forward to this day, and were nagging me and my wife Gretchen the whole trip.. "Daddy can we go see the custard lakes at the Custard Factory" they would say.
The day of the trip we catch the train from London and when we finally arrive, you should have seen the look on Ronson's face. Not a SINGLE custard product in sight. This wasn't some Willy Wonka style factory for custard but a bunch of pretentious little tech businesses.
Woefully misleading...
