Arrived on Sunday for the record fair and decided to have a drink outside in the sun next to the kitchen window. From there I got to see the Sunday dinners being prepared and was impressed with the attention to detail in creating great looking roasts. In the end after viewing the fair we decided to have a meal here which was the first time eating in the crown, only haven popped in for a quick drink previously. I was really impressed with how punctual staff were and offered great service. It didn’t take long for the food to arrive after ordering. The pork and beef roast I had tasted excellent. The pork and beef were cooked perfectly and loved the crackling on the pork. The roasties were nice and crispy with a soft centre and the vegetables tasted great also. One of the better roasts I've tried in a while! I was really impressed and pleased the pub is offering great food to go along with its character and history. My partner had the Salmon and she loved it and thought it was one of the best cooked Salmons she had had. We would have had a dessert, but the food was filling enough for us both. I would recommend anyone to come along to this great pub and sample the good selection of drinks and food. Thanks to all the staff also who are doing a great job here. I will return to try more of the menu soon.

We stayed last night as we were visiting Birmingham for a night to attend a music concert at the o2 Institute. The welcome we received was warm and friendly from the guy behind the bar and although they were clearly busy it didn't take long for us to be shown to our room. We upgraded to the Quadruple room last minute and I am so glad we did as it was gigantic as was the bathroom!! I had read previous reviews about the noise from outside (there are other venues close by and a busy main road) and I am glad I did as I think if I hadn't been expecting it I would have been shocked as it was definitely quite difficult to sleep and had we have had the children we would have had even less. The room was clean and the shower was lovely.. the tea making facilities were very welcomed in the morning to warm up as the room did get cold during the night due to the age of the building and old windows etc. I would definitely return as it's a great location for the Train station and Bullring.. would recommend.

The oldest pub in Birmingham has loads of character, a huge space in the artisanal quarter of the city centre. It stands out in that respect, it is a piece of history, most of its siblings are a glint in the eye. There is a relaxed atmosphere to The Old Crown, from the staff, to its inhabitants to its food. On the food front the menu does try hard to separate its offerings from that of your average chain. Most dishes lack the kind of attention to detail that you'll find in good pub food. It's not all bad; the sandwiches are special, made with sourdough, served with tasty sides and literally oozes with flavour. Great value for money, but don't expect that on par with other gastro pubs in the area (e.g., The Pint Shop). Be sure to take a good look around while you wait for your food to be served. The Old Crown has bags of character.

Went here for the first time in a while after a Blues game .One of lads i go with his wife was ill so he drove and didn't come for a drink after the game .The other two cadged a lift with him so i was on my Jack Jones.I arranged to walk down to the Crown and meet my Mrs for a drink then on to town.So i wasn't rowdy , just sat chatting to some people next to us .They began serving booze in plastics cups , not because of trouble but because seemingly they didn't have enough washed glasses .I'm polite sober ( 1st drink of the day ) but found it hard to get served even though the initial mad rush had subsided after game.In fact i'd sat and waited for the rush to clear milking a pint purchased by my wife before my arrival. The staff seemed to want to serve other people but me .I had one drink a £6.50 one pour Guinness in a cheap plastic cup .It was dreadful .I accept the bar was busy , but a good bar person knows who is next .At one point a young lady turning to myself and other customers and said " who's next ?" catching her eye i began to give my order, only to be told "i don't serve that part of the bar only the corner it's not my section " turning away she stood there with her hand on her hips .Eventually serving another customer who walked through the door to the corner of the bar . I should gone out the door come back in and to the corner , i guess i'm not that quick witted .After ten minutes standing front and centre at the bar waiting to be served i gave up and went to the toilet .When i returned the young lady was serving a chap exactly where i had been previously standing lol.I approched the bar again stood politely trying to get served .At this point i was the only customer not served .A tall chap with earrings who had spent the five minutes since my return to the bar ignoring me turned my way , only to look over my shoulder to two women and ask them " what they want " as they approached the bar lol.I was made to feel very unwelcome , it spoiled my night/day a bit to be honest, but it's not worth kicking off .I guess i voted with my feet , and went to the Bull down the road .Then continued my...

I enjoy this pub like i enjoy a good execution of a crazed pedophile. The booze is fairly priced, the food is cheap and well presented but my main fascination is the people! By George! and i'm not talking karma chameleon! No! This was my first time at this beautiful establishment. The people i come across here i'll never truly forget. Using the men's toilet's which wasn't to shabby for a quick squirt! i was greeted by a short, friendly, fat bald man wearing a ghastly Hawaiian shirt who ushered me into his cubical! I was like By George! and i'm not talking did he really want to hurt me! He pulled out a bag which had remarkable resemblance to McDougalls Plain Flour! He said "Go on son, have a snizzle on this dizzle lad if you're looking for a cheeky time" Oh I do love being cheeky! I snorted it of his vauxhall vectra car key! We shook hands! He left! Great Chap. The time reached 8:30pm at this point and oh, was i feeling cheeky! The sound of merry, cheerful not so beautiful people's voices could be heard from every direction! A young male, stumbling around trying to show his best "Techno house" move's took the center stage, catching my eye, he reminded me of my younger self. He accidentally pushed into me knocking my Stella artois all over my Pierre Cardin sweater. I was fascinated, his acquaintance (or whom i'm presuming was a friend) rushed over to grab his falling friend, an aggressive young male to say the least! He shouted "Fookin E'll ya bastard Ket head, they ent gonna let you into 2:31 ya prick. Chong some of this rollie ya nonce and let go sort ya lad" it's only 9:00pm! You've got another 5 hours and 31 minutes to go! I was confused! Shocked, Bewildered and needed a Poo as something was dropping down my throat. Worth while the...

Terrible service twice. In the summer of 2023 ,I was in Digbeth, pushing my 93 year old mom, in her wheelchair ,Mom said I love the old crown, shall we have a drink and something to eat? .I said yes, so we ordered some food and 2 Hot chocolates ,the food was ok ,but we had to wait over 20 mins for the drinks.when they finally arrived they were cold ,I said "let's just drink up and get out ,we can't find a member of staff anyway to complain"as we were leaving another customer was complaining about how cold her tea was .Fast forward to December 16th 2024,I was in Digbeth again about 2.30.pm with my mom ,when she said "I love the old crown ,shall we have a hot chocolate and some food "? I said "remember last time? "Oh yes" mom said ,so we sat at a table ,grabbed a menu and went to the bar to order 2 hot chocolates while we browsed at the menu .After several minutes a member of staff appeared ,I ordered the drinks ,we sat there for over 20 mins ,while other people were trying to get served ,we couldn't find the barmaid .As me and my mom got more agitated and frustrated ,the barmaid finally brought the 2 drinks to our table ,she said "sorry about the wait ,we only have one hot drinks machine " so before she left I thought I'd better check how hot it actually is.Both drinks were totally cold.I said "they are freezing ,taste them"she said I'll make you two more ,I said "no thanks I'll have the money back please" so then another member of staff gave me the refund.I said you need to sort your coffee machine out.Never again .Update: when I posted my review last year Kieran the owner asked me for my email address so he could make it up to us .I sent Kieran my email address several months ago ,but no...
