booked online for my 3.5t tipper for lawrence hill branch for wheel alignment. when I arrived I was told couldnt take my truck as too big even though I input my reg on the website?🤷♂️
was asked if I'd like to be transferred to bath road branch which I said yes to. It was booked in for 8:30 am the following morning. arrived at 8:20 for an 8:30 am start, spoke to reception guy who advised me there was already a car on there from the night before so wouldn't be long. so I sat in my truck. I enquired if they had any spare time to look at 2 things whilst it was up on the jacks. first one an exhaust clamp that I had with me, would of took less than 5 mins was told they dont do that sort of thing. I then said my cv boot on my right hand side had slipped off, could we re-attach it with cable tie please which I had with me. I offered to pay for the time taken. I was told had no time at all to do anything other than my wheel alignment. It was said is a dismissive manor like couldnt be bothered and just wanted me out of his reception room.
I spotted the said car come out after about 10 mins or so and thought the guy would come and get me. at 9:15am the guy who booked me in then came to get me, said he thought I would of been taken in by now so asked me to jump out and he would take it in. There was a weird atmosphere between him and the guy who was "meant" to do it.
I was handed back the keys and my results sheet. I dont feel my steering wheel is straight, its actually slightly to the right instead of to the left of where it used to be.
I feel the 2 jobs I was asking about were not tough, long complex jobs. they were small menial jobs that I wouldnt even of minded coming back for and payed for if offered, especially the cv boot. I've watched alignment being done and im pretty sure the bolts are right by the cv boot so could of just been slipped back on especially as I had waited 45 mins to be seen.
If I was 45 mins late for my booking I reckon I'd of been shown the door swiftly and lost my money.
Overall, the experience was unfriendly, unhelpful and I wont be using again.
I usually use ablefit for tyres and things its just a shame they cant get me...
Read moreWent to Bathwick to get a puncture repaired on a 3.5t horsebox. They identified cracks in a front tyre (which I knew about)
However they then proceeded to scaremonger me by saying that all the tyres were illegal as they were over ten years old and that this makes them illegal as they are commercial tyres and that if pulled over I would be liable for 3 points per tyre.
I researched this and it is false. There is a new requirement for tyres to be less than 10 years old but it only applies to HGVs that are over 3.5 tons and to minibuses with at least 9 seats. Not 3.5t vans or horseboxes. Also no mention of points on your license per tyre.
They also made sure to have the vehicle up on a jack with a couple of wheels off before springing this revelation on me.
It felt like classic lying and scaremongering as they saw a vehicle with 7 tyres including the spare come in and thought they'd try their luck.
When challenged on this they didn't concede despite being shown the gov website stating the exact conditions of this rule.
At best this is an utter lack of knowledge in the field they are supposedly specialising in. At worst it is deceit and dishonesty with the intention of fleecing customers into paying for unnecessary work.
In the end I got two new front tyres (as I could see they were cracked and a puncture repaired on one of the rears which came to about £180 total (don't know if this was good value or not)
Will never use them again. The bald guy seemed to be the ring-leader and there was a strange atmosphere between him and his colleagues. Not friendly with us or his workmates.
Thought I'd give an independent business a go rather than the chain round the corner but on this occasion this did not work out well. I would avoid if I were you.
I notice a lot of the other (positive) review's say how they went in for one thing and describe how they "very helpfully" spotted a number of other issues. Very helpful...
The only saving grace is that the work I agreed to pay them to do was done to a satisfactory standard.
Plenty of tyre places out there, take my advice and...

Please, do yourself a favour and trust those people who negatively rated this garage as they telling the truth. I’m one of those who didn’t believe until I felt it on my own back, sadly. Came in to change two tyres and a 4 wheel tracking done. After the job was done you can see in the picture attached the position of my steering wheel on straight road. 🤕 Went back to them after driving 2 miles and the mecanic was very surprised to see me back and after I told him what’s happening he started to blame my suspensions and that he did everything right. However, the car went back on the ramp and new adjustments been made and I’ve asked for the printed paperwork of the new measurements. Guess what: the printer ran out of cartridges 🥴🥴 ha ha. What a coincidence!! I’ve asked for a pdf file to be sent or a screen photo of the new measurements but the mecanic started to complain that he can’t give me this as he has to bring back the car on the ramp and place all the tracking system components back on the car which was costing him time and effort. After realising that the mecanic was trying to hide the measurements I went at the desk to ask the manager to step in telling that I’m not happy and not fair to leave without the proof of the work done on my car. But the response of the manager who was one of the most arogant persons I’ve meet was: “If the mecanic said everything it’s ok even if he can’t prove it, then it’s ok. Everything should be fine.” What a calming response to a serious issue which can play an important role in my family’s safety. 😔 Stay away from this garage. Customer care it’s an unknown matter for this people and the only star given it’s for their willingness to change my appointment at a more suitable...
