Spice Bazaar Indian Restaurant & Takeaway — Restaurant in Bristol

It was our first visit here and it was not a good experience. We arrived about 7.30 and were seated around 8.00 as it was busy, which I thought was a good sign. Yes we had not booked but we ended up waiting around an hour and fifty mins to get our main course. We had to remind the waiter to bring our starters of poppadoms and dips and it all went wrong from there and spoiled the evening. It was a busy night but nevertheless it was an excessive wait. We did not get any clear feedback from the waiters about how long we were going to have to wait and we were basically fobbed off or ignored when we asked. They were sending out take away orders at the same time which obviously delayed things further. No one came to say sorry about the long wait and we had to start threatening to leave before we were served. Other customers were also having to wait and it was clear the restaurant had taken on too many customers. They apologised at the end but it was to late by then. Our friend Ann Bevan took us here last night as she told us she had been many times with other visitors. My normal preference for an Indian is normally for the larger more prestigious restaurants. What a welcome surprise! WELL PLEASED ! Our waiter was Ali who was so professional describing the menu and specials on offer. He had just the perfect mix of professionalism and fun banter. (I listened to the other waiters and they seemed to have the same ethos) Now we come to the food. Onion bhaji absolutely SUPERB! as a starter. One of you choose the Papadum starter so that you get the plate of 5 or six chutneys and dips to dip the bhaji's. We had starter and main coarse and for the 3 of us the bill was less than 40 quid! RESULT ! Did I forget something important ? YES I DID. The restaurant boasts BYO ! So we took our own wine and no charge for corkage or glasses. They request you do not bring your own soft drinks. Lets face it if one of you is driving just share the cost of the purchased soft drinks. 10 out of 10 for the quality and quantity of the food. I just regret the fact that I live 125 miles away from this little gem. Value for money...

If you want to wait TWO hours for food then go ahead and order! We ordered online at 6:20 for the 7:30 - 7:45 slot. I could deal with that, however, the food didnt arrive until 8:25!!! When calling up, the rude waiter told us he didn't know and that 'he doesn't work at the back'. Thanks for that. Second time he screened our call, so we tried him from another phone - He answered. He told us that the weather was bad, even though it hadn't rained for four hours. When the food finally turned up at 8:25, the driver informed us that they were having an issue with the other driver. Which is it?? Driver or the weather? The food is great and it's reasonably priced!! But I won't be ordering from you again!
