Gem Security Systems Ltd — Local services in Bristol

Gem Security came and inspected our doors (both an automatic ones and a manual ones). They informed us that the internal power supply for one of the auto doors had failed and needed replacing. They quoted us £549.78 for the part alone + £400 labour.

I couldn't believe a power supply would cost that much. So I asked for a quote from another local auto door installer, who didn't think the power supply needed replacing. He came and checked. He only replaced one of the cables and everything was working. He also only spent about 20 mins adjusting our manual doors and got them fixed (whereas Gem Security quoted us 5.5 labour hours for this).

It shows that Gem Security was either completely incompetent or dishonest (I would say it was the latter given the amount they quoted for the manual doors). We, as a consumer, have to rely on them and trust them for their diagnoses. We would have paid £1,300 more unnecessarily to Gem Security if we went for their quote. If they were in the medical profession, they would have been struck off from the medial register for this. So stay away from this company...

As a café owner, I was really worried when one of my staff dropped their roller shutter fob in a drink and it stopped working. The installer had told me replacements weren’t available, so I thought we were stuck. Thankfully, I went to Gemsec.

They tested my damaged fob to check it was still sending a signal, then ordered replacements, duplicated the programming, and even gave me clear instructions on how to pair the new fobs with my shutter. Now I’ve got a replacement for my staff member and a spare for peace of mind.
