This college is excellent to learn new skills and/or to develop the skills that you may already have.
The college, unlike high school, actually has a reason to treat you like a worker as this is the final stage of education in most people's lives, therefore, when you study to become a cook, waiter or hairdresser they will treat you like an adult and talk to you as if they were your employer.
Some say that even after getting a degree here, that they have a hard time finding a job, this isn't the college's fault but rather your own as YOU are the one to get a job for yourself. Even if you have difficulty finding a job, the college, as long as you're a student can help you out and outsiders can come in and visit the employment hub which can help you out in finding a job.
The college makes sure that the students have a pleasant time while being here, therefore they want to make sure that everyone is at a good mental state, and those who have a negative mental state (whether it's for medical reasons or mental reason) can ask their Progress Coach for help and/ guidance. Many complain that they didn't get help, but that's only because they didn't reach out.
There is however a common problem, as I heard from fellow friends that sometimes their teachers may not even arrive on time or arrive at all because of some mysterious illness (same happened to me) therefore their time learning is suffered because of the teacher's lack of punctuality.
Overall, the college ain't bad but it still has some small holes that it needs to improve on, but that's just...
Read moreI am outraged by the treatment my younger cousin received during her short time attending this college. She had put in years of work in Derby, in order to be eligible to study here. She was open and honest about her health conditions from the very beginning. Her tutor Joanne sent her a despicable voicemail informing her she needs to be “honest” about her intentions with the course. She had been sent home for an asthma attack, nobody made the effort to seek medical attention or even call her to see if she was okay. I would not accept this behaviour from my 8 year old son, let alone a grown woman with a career and a degree. The college should be ashamed of themselves having such lazy and disrespectful staff. I have now heard one of my cousins friends has had time off for health and there was no problem at all, so I can’t help but feel this incident was racially motivated. We have not heard back from this incompetent tutor and I’m sure she won’t make the effort to make sure my cousin is okay after such disrespect. The college also promised her a travel bursary, which she never received. I myself have attended numerous colleges in the midlands, I have never come across one that treats people so awfully, especially adult learners. Do not send your...
Read moreAbsoloutely awful, The only remotely useful department is Wellbeing, I have been attending this college for 3 years and I am SO glad to say this will be my last! Regarding my experience, In the University building Art department I have had such a bipolar experience, some days were great and others had me begging myself to drop out, Unfortunately I care for my proceeding education and of ALL the collegs, I would of happily gone to Derby - reason being is that every tutor will treat you like you're still in PRIMARY SCHOOL, On an A Level course, CERTAIN Tutors & Staff will look down to you, If I had the willpower I would absoloutely have some names here.
I wouldn't dare put examples here, Look at the other reviews - I apologise.
NO Respect for students, NO Accessiblity to the University building & more, It takes a student's parents to get something done. Even then, the process will be slow & delayed, granted they have their own problems but for a place that advertises it's self as Safe, the behaviour that happens outside is horrid, I apologise to any potential staff of the area as this does not apply to you all!
