It's a little bit unfortunate that this is the best arts/performance venue that Burton has to offer, as... well, i have no idea what it is. It certainly isn't a theatre, it's not a bar, it's just.. weird. The foyer /bar area often puts on local performances, room to hire etc. However, the 'Brewhouse' has no draught beers, cask etc, its all bottles. The performance area is kinda odd too.
I went to see a school performance at the main auditorium recently. It's basically a long thin room with temporary seating (although a good rake on it so visibility is good). The 'stage' is flat, the same level as the floor itself, which is the oddest thing i've seen in a venue like this. There's clearly no wing space but it does look like they have facilities for a couple of wipes on tracks etc for scenery cloths. The lighting rig is minimal (too minimal) and whilst is does have lighting and sound boxes at the back, it doesn't feel like a theatre venue at all.
I wish Burton had a good theatre venue, but i'm afraid this just isnt it. It's a weird mix between a temporary auditorium and a bar/smaller stage which lacks atmosphere. But, i guess it's the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe visited as a family to watch A Night at the Musicals by SJDA dance and performance academy last night. The event was given by a local dance academy and their students, and offered an extensive programme. The students looked as young as 2 years up, including an excellent, skilful, and funny Dad Dancing routine. The show was opened by a troupe of teenage students who immediately stole the hearts of the audience and performed with some of SJDA tutors. Next followed the tiny tots age up to 3, and these starstruck little entertainers clearly loved dancing. The following acts continued to delight with too many wonderful moments to remember, except that the teachers and helpers made a magnificent job of the choreography, the teaching and also marshalling of so many students into outfits, delivering routines and putting on a great show. We loved it. Well...

It was back in November 2006, that England and Wales banned smoking indoors in a move that was heralded as "a huge step forward for public health". The ban made it illegal to smoke in all enclosed spaces in England including cafes, clubs, pubs, restaurants and shopping centres
As a consequence I went home with a sore throat stinging eyes and stinking clothes. I was going to walk out of the theatre but as I was with friends I didnāt want to make a scene or but a dampener on...
