Everytime when i go to The Lord Burton i have a challenge with one of the security guys who seems to have a personal vendetta with me. At one time two months back i bought beer when the bar was about to close. Whilst at the counter this Pakistan security guy who stays in Derby approached me a very disrespectful way and unprofessional manner.
He told me that the bar has closed and i have to leave. I told him that it's barely two that i had ordered some beers for me and my friends. So i was trying to negotiate with the bartender as to whether i can get a refund or not, and if not could they atleast give me a receipt then the next day i will come and drink my beer. It was an order almost of above £20,but the guy would have non of it as he violently pushed me outside the bar.
I tried to plead with him that i am still negotiating for a better solution because the bartender had sold me the beer without informing me that they have closed. What i k ow is that when the bar is about to close they give customers time to finish off their beers or drinks. Infact they give notice atleast 15mins before closing time. So that really never happened in the day.
To make matters worse the guy told me facialky that as long as he is on shift i will never enjoy time to eat my money at The Lord Burton Bar. He said it to my face that nomatter whoever i talk to he will not allow me to enter the bar unless if he is not on shift, thus during the week. He said he had banned me for refusing to leave the bar two months ago. How was i supposed to leave and not get to a conclusion with the bartender as to what should i do since she had not yet served me the order.
Realky that guy is not human enough and i tended to believe that he is such a racial guy as you can't personalise things when you are not the owner of the bar.
Moreover i had done nothing wrong to be treated like that hence my thinking that the issue was or is a about me bring a black person. I have never had any problems with anyone in the bar but instead i usually make friends everytime when am at The Lord Burton Bar playing pool. So i do not know what the management of the bar might think about my predicament and the hatred poised by one of theur security personnel. At one time two weeks back he found me drinking my Carling at the smoking zone and he chased me away in a very inhuman and rough way. It was as if i have developed to be a parasite to him by being...
Read morePopped in for lunch and a coffee ☕. The place was busy and well frequented. Ordered for food and drink using the app and the wait time was an acceptable 14 minutes for the food. On appearance I have to say everything looks fine and as it should, after all nothing to complex just a simple steak and kidney pie 🥧 with chips and peas. I must say however that looks can be deceiving as the pastry on the pie had been well and truly obliterated to the point it was rock hard, the pot of gravy supplied I felt might rescue the meal but this proved not to be the case as this was so thick and gluppy I just couldn't get it to pour from the jug, not good I'm afraid. I ate the chips which were fine and left the pie and gravy as a sign of my disapproval. The coffee ☕ which is self served from a machine was at best luke warm and somewhat disappointing, so overall my review for lunch would have to be poor and not good value for money in the current economic situation. The chef or cook needs to up their game if they believe this is acceptable to prepare and offer food of this standard...
Read moreI have decided to go for 3 stars because my experience here over the last year has been so varied. I enjoy an "early doors" pint - typically around 4 pm. The pub was and is certainly not the most well managed and supervised Wetherspoons house. In particular tables were not cleared & cleaned and bar service was poor with insufficient emphasis on quality and quantity of well trained, well managed staff. Priority of service went to regulars rather than those of us who had waited longest! Unsurprisingly the volume of afternoon trade appears to have tangibly declined.
However in the last month or two I have seen some improvement though things are still far from perfect. Perhaps the fact it's quieter had helped. This could be a great Wetherspoons in a historic brewing town with the right management.
Perhaps I expect too much having moved to live near Burton from Ramsgate with the flagship Wetherspoons...
