As someone who studied at Strathclyde in the 1990s it's sad returning to The Union as the building is clearly being run down with little investment pending the Association's big move in 2020 when it moves into the redeveloped Colville Building. The heyday of the early/mid 1990s when it was officially Scotland's biggest licenced premises is long gone, and it's a sad shadow of its former self with a lot of decay, the bank and travel agent gone, and compratively speaking - the beer isn't as cheap as it used to be, even allowing for inflation. Read moreThe new Strathy Union - now inside what used to the Colville Building - (once upon a time the civil engineering building) isn't as big as the old one - although to be fair the 90 John Street building was getting progressively run down and scabby over the years preceding the move...as an "oldie" I remember when it was Scotland's biggest pub in the 1990s and Level 8 attracted big bands.

I've come here for catch up lunches with friends, a nice sit and a coffee between lectures, and drinks with friends and course mates. There are plenty of places to get some peace and quiet, to revise and work on assignments. The best thing about the union is the advice hub.
