We had went on 16/06/24, I’ve had visited before in February, however since then the standards have declined as my experience today was mediocre at best. This is an in depth review of the food and service.
Spagetti Cabonara - 1.5/5 At first it tasted amazing, the black pepper added was delicious, however as you got to the bottom of the pasta, it become greasier and greasier to the point the pasta were DRIPPING from oil. We had tilted the plate to the side and discovered the mass amount of oil, that probably could have measured to a cup with just oil. I had then asked a server that was there and his response was: “We’ve had that comment before, but this is normal.” NORMAL? That is absurd, that amount of oil could be used to shallow fry something. Not the mention the guanciale tasted an awful lot like smoked bacon. The sauce was way too rich, to the point it had overpowered the other ingredient in the dish, such as the egg yolk. The only decent thing about this dish, is that the pasta was cooked perfectly, which should be expected from an Italian restaurant.
Mafalde alla Calabrese - 3/5
This dish was alright, nothing special about it, and tasted like something that could easily be made at home. I’ve found that the meat from this place tastes weird, or the texture is off. Overall, not bad.
Gnocchi dello chef - 4.5/5
Arguably the best dish of tonight. The gnocchi here tastes amazing, but again same complaint of the meat. The courgettes added a nice touch to the dish and was enjoyable. I would recommend this to anyone who visits Amore.
SIDES
Focaccia alla romano - 2.5/5
The actual focaccia was delicious and it felt light enough to be a side. However the pesto was wayyyy too salty, and didn’t balance out the dish well.
Spicy chicken wings - 4/5
It tasted nice, however was not spicy. It’s definitely more of a sweet barbecue chicken than a barbecue chicken with a kick. However, it was absolutely lovely, and I would recommend this to anyone who likes sweet barbecue chicken.
DRINKS
I would recommend the lemonade ice cream float to anyone, as it is the perfect balance of sweet yet tangy. I, myself am not a massive fan of fizzy drinks, however it was delicious.
CUSTOMER SERVICE - 2/5
Atrocious. It has fell off so much since the last time I visited in February. Some staff were inauthentic and in a way, rude. While others were alright. They had gotten our order wrong, and no compensation was given, nor a sorry. The customer service charge is absurd, and if I could, I would not have given it, though sadly it is included in your bill.
CONCLUSION
Overall it was mediocre at best. I will not be visiting again. This place has lowered its standards. Even if this was a busy day, due to it being Father’s Day. This level of service should not be the standard. I’d recommend anyone to go to somewhere else like Ask Italian that is only around a 15 minute walk away, and has much...
Read moreTreated my brother/sister in law/husband to a birthday lunch here on 22nd April. We haven't visited for quite a while so was looking forward to our visit. The place was not too busy initially but soon it was filling up with patrons which just goes to show that it is still very popular. The service is always good as there is always plenty of staff. Started with drinks as they always let you have plenty of time to decide over the menu. The starters were varied and different between us, some definitely Italian and some not.. Sticky chicken wings (x4), usual bruschetta pomodoro (toast was burnt), deep fried garlic mushrooms & garlic Mayo (?double breadcrumb coating?), and jalapeño poppers & obligatory garlic mayo (husband said they weren't very spicy at all) which also had so much breadcrumb coating that I initially thought that they were croquettes. The pasta (x2) Del Femio, penne with italian sausage and tomato sauce looked good and plentiful as did the pasta polpette, long spaghetti with meatballs in tomato sauce. The chicken burger with cheese looked out of place in an Italian restaurant and the extremely skinny fries looked soggy to me. My chicken escalope looked good but was dry and tough (? cooked once then reheated) but the penne in tomato sauce was fine and plenty of it. The service during the meal was good but not hovering too much. The dessert was a required treat as we were celebrating a birthday after all but not everyone had one as the portions are generous. A strawberry mess (not Eton), and the Tiramisu (of course) followed, the gentlemen abstained. On the whole I would return as the value, atmosphere and service were good and to try something else from the menu meal wise. The bill was around £114 for 2 pints lager, 2 soft drinks. 4 starters and mains and 2 desserts which was...
Read morei have to share my recent dining experience at the restaurant. I placed an order for Cajun chicken pasta, making it explicitly clear that I could not consume pork chorizo due to religious beliefs. Despite conveying this dietary restriction, the dish was served with chorizo mixed in. Unfortunately, I took a bite unknowingly, mistaking it for chicken, only to be met with a wave of discomfort and distress upon realizing the mistake.
When I brought the issue to the attention of the staff, their response was disappointing. They offered to remove the charge from the bill, which was already anticipated given the circumstances as I only had 1 bite of the pasta. However, their apology was superficial at best, lacking any genuine concern or acknowledgment of the gravity of the situation.
What compounded the disappointment was the aftermath of the incident. Despite having taken only one bite, the impact on my appetite and well-being was significant. I felt sickened and disgusted, unable to even contemplate consuming any further food. It was a profound letdown to have my dietary needs disregarded, and the lack of empathy or genuine apology from the restaurant only added to the frustration.
Overall, my experience left much to be desired. The failure to accommodate a straightforward dietary request and the subsequent lack of sincere remorse or concern for my well-being was deeply disappointing. It's essential for establishments to prioritize customer care and attentiveness to dietary needs, especially when it comes to matters as significant as religious beliefs.
To top it off the Manager said ‘ Oh well we can’t turn...
