I've been doing yoga with Luci for two years following retirement. For the first year I did yoga therapy class once a week. I chose that class as I had a frozen shoulder with limited mobility. In the last year I also joined the holistic yoga class as my shoulder and general mobility had greatly improved. This is what I sent to Luci a couple of months ago - "I played nine holes of golf yesterday with my two lads. First time out in nearly a year. Despite giving them the best part of 30 years, I won relatively comfortably with my lowest score ever. My swing was very good with plenty of flexibility in my hips, back and shoulders - thanks to Yoga!" Yoga has also helped my focus on my general well being. I have changed my diet and have lost over two stone in weight resulting in normal range blood pressure and reduced diabetes medication. I would encourage more men to do yoga - it's more of a challenge than you would think and enormously beneficial. Luci is a great teacher. She takes a real interest in all of her students and offers variations in some of the poses to suit different abilities. One of her favourite sayings is 'You are as young as your spine' and at 64 mine is a lot more supple than it was when I started with none of the recurring lower back pain that I used to get. Read moreI'd been a regular student at Luci's Mixed Ability classes for many years when, just out of interest, I tried one of her Thursday evening holistic / restorative classes. They have an emphasis on stretching and breathing but are fully supported so require little strength - and it's easy to hold the postures for the best results.
These classes are great for releasing tense muscles and increasing flexibility and are now my favourites. My lower back and shoulders are looser than they've been for a very long time.
The best bit is there are also recorded sessions so I'm not just tied to the timing of a scheduled class and can also have a regular Sunday morning treat.
