Just dropped in for a quick drink after spending a few hours shopping with little ones in Guildford and I was really impressed. I rushed in to do a nappy change for my littlest and my husband followed with our eldest and ordered drinks. The toilet was big enough to comfortably do a nappy change on the fold down table which is always a plus. When we came out I saw that someone had kindly given us some crayons and paper for the kids to do some drawing which was brilliant. It looks as though there's been a refurb, with all seating areas in mix and match fabrics and different styles that work really well together. My son informed me that they'd moved tables because our current table had better chairs for his little sister and my husband chimed in that the best thing about moving tables was that wherever you sit, you get a good view of a TV and as the rugby was on, he was very happy! However, because of this there is a lot of competition including, opposite, The White House with tables on the water and a short walk down the canal is The Britannia which has the best beer selection and food of the three.
Sadly, the George doesn’t stand up well alongside the other two.
We visited on a Friday lunchtime and were the only ones in. Their sharing menu is a bad idea given their facilities. We were told to expect slow delivery of the food due to only having one chef and being limited to two fryers.
The staff were perfectly nice, friendly and efficient but that isn’t matched by either the speed or quality of the menu items.
