We attended your establishment, The Weyside in Guildford by the river bank on 31st December 2024 as a family party of 11. Originally I had called ahead to book but seeing as I live in a new build (technically a field) my signal was poor and noone could hear me, and so I decided to email your organisation to book a table, however, after a few days and no-one getting back to me I decided to call again and booked a table. This time all was good!
I love the fact the pub is along the river bank, it must be so beautiful and picturesque in the summertime. We plan to return again in the summertime. The pub allows friendly dogs within the establishment, which must be nice after a long stroll along the river bank to then be able to have a nice cold drink and a lovely bite to eat. I do not know how many covers the pub/restaurant caters for at anyone time but it is a large area with the pub area, the restaurant area down a flight of stairs and then the covered outside area.
One negative point is, there is no free car parking as you have to park offsite next door in the over priced public pay & display car parking area. That then requires you to walk up a flight of stairs containing approx 30 ish steps, and so not easy if you require a walking aid due to mobility issues. You could possibly stop and drop off directly outside the pub as I do not believe I observed double yellow lines, although I stand corrected if that is the case, but by doing so may annoy some car drivers as you would be temporarily blocking one side of the road not far from a junction and set of traffic lights. Having said that, the alternative is to walk out of the main entrance of the car parking area and walk up the incline of the street/road along the footpath - any ideal solution would be to remove the fencing along down the side of the pub which backs onto the public car parking area for customers of the pub (obviously I do not know how easy that would be to gain access from there seeing as the pub/restaurant appears to be on a slight hill).
The pub/restaurant itself has a lovely feel to it, warm, cosy and friendly. There are male, female and disabled toilets within the pub area. The staff were nice, friendly and welcoming. Our server was Amy, Amy was very lovely, nice, friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive to us and our needs. She is one very good employee, well worth keeping hold of her.
The menu had a good varied selection and choice of foods ranging from starters, mains and desserts, as well as the specials board too, however, there was limited Vegan choice, and so, you could do with increasing the choice from a plant burger and or salad. There is so much variety in Vegan food within supermarkets nowadays like a no meat lasagne or a curry. The prices of the food appeared to be on the higher side ranging from £16 to £25 but when the food was served, the portions were massive and well worth the price. As a guide for 11 of us all having 1 or 2 drinks, all eating mains and half having a dessert it cost £24.75 each splitting the bill between us all.
This pub/restaurant is well worth a visit due to the atmosphere, froendly staff and great food. I would definitely highly recommend others visit it especially if you have a four legged companion, and or if you like summer walks followed by a...
Read moreI have been going to this pub for years, have spent a lot of money here and booked a couple of events. The previous time we came here was for a 30th. We had been told that if there was any confetti that was needed to be cleaned we would not be able to get our deposit of £100. Fair play, however, one single confetti was left on the floor from a balloon that had popped (which we cleared up) and they refused to give our £100 back. After going back and fourth we finally managed to get it back as they realised it was silly after the wind had blown one single confetti on the floor we had obviously missed after clearing up the rest.
Fast forward to yesterday when me and a couple of girlfriends had met up. I thought I would let go of the pettiness of the confetti situation that had happened last year and thought, I have been here a few times and usually it’s fine. It’s nice whether I will come for some food, drink and a catch up. Good had come - was okay nothing amazing and definitely not worth the price of how much the dishes actually are. Anyway, one of my friends had got to her last greasy onion Bahji to realise there was a small black (maybe beard, maybe chest hair) in her food, automatically we all felt sick, she could not eat anymore and put it on the floor. She had been told to go to the bar to speak to the manager about arranging a free drink/food. She definitely did not want anymore food but a drink sounded good, although she wasn’t fussed just wanted to let them know ( you could see that none of the chefs are wearing hair nets (gross) couple of them had longish beards too. Anyway she was greeted by the very rude manager to say that basically he had examined the hair and it was two toned (it wasn’t) and that she must of planted it! The hair was a small black chest/beard hair that had a follicle. Anyway disgusting, and really rude from the manager. Made her feel really embarrassed in front of his colleagues and members of the public. Will not be returning. If you enjoy unhygienic chefs that don’t wear hair/ beard nets then this is your place. I’m sure the manager would love to get...
Read moreIt started off well it was a nice day it was the first time that we had visited Guildford with my family and I as I have been working most of my life in hotels and restaurants around the world, we first arrived at the The Weyside pub we met the guy on reception who was very kind and told us that the pub was dog friendly as we had our dog with us he continued to say you may sit anywhere as long as the tables aren't reserved so we looked around we found two tables towards the far left facing the river that had no reservation signs on them unlike the two big tables under the shelter that were reserved for a person called sally at 3:30, we had been there for two hours drinking and enjoying the pub as well as two lady's were sat on the table next to us also having a good time then the group of people came then Karen showed up and rudely told us "you need to move!" with a sour face, I said where is the reservation note she replied rudely there are other tables you can move to and I said I'll finish my pint thank you and she said you need to move right now. I have never felt more embarrassed Infront of the large group of people, this person clearly has no social skills and this person should not be working in this position I believe she is management she totally ruined my family's outing and I shall never return to this pub again is a shame because everybody else acted professionally but her, also when we said we'll finish in five minutes she said she will be back in five minutes to check on us as well as the small table next to us with the two young lady's sitting next to us due to your incompetence you have ruined our day...
