Helmsley Open Air Swimming Pool — Local services in Helmsley

Fantastic open air pool. Great for a swim or a family day out. The family fun time with all the floats was great for the kids, but other swim sessions allow for laps if that's your thing. There are tables and chairs around the pool, and you can take in food and drink for picknicks and snacks (no glass or alcohol though!). Each session is around 1hr 45 and with numbers being controlled, doesn't get too overcrowded. The staff are friendly, the pool well maintained and a good temperature once you're in. We had a great day out! Would highly recommend - especially with a little tub of Yorkshire ice cream from the tuck shop after! 😁 The changing rooms could do with an upgrade which they're currently fundraising for. Very basic, quite ugly outdoor pool. With no lockers or heated showers. I visited on Friday 22nd of June, a baking hot blue day. I was surprised that it cost £5 to swim as this is more than I pay in London. There was one serviceable toilet, sinks wth cold water only, no lockers and no showers in the ladies changing rooms. There is an outdoor shower which is apparently solar heated, but it was freezing cold on one of the sunniest and hottest days of the year!! Given the beautiful countryside surrounding the pool, it is a shame that it is surrounded with a concrete block wall, obscuring views of any countryside. Sadly, I wasn't impressed. Being unable to shower after a swim is unpleasant and I consider it a minimum service that pools...

Whilst I’m pleased to see Helmsley open air swimming pool busy I do question the booking system. I tried contacting them by phone on numerous times this morning to get the same automatic reply; telling me that to get the fastest response I should email them, which I did. I did eventually receive a response just after 12:30 hours. Obviously not everybody that uses the pool lives locally and it takes time to travel, and has increased drastically in recent months - if you haven’t got time to answer the phone then I suggest that the message reflect that there is no spaces for that session or sessions, and the website show...
