Chapel of Our Lady of the Crag — Local services in Knaresborough

Very disappointed! Was going around the historical landmarks of Knaresborough for the day and really wanted to see this, even just the outside of it. Unfortunately it was closed off completely. I certainly understand that for religious reasons they may not wish for visitors inside apart from on religious days like Sundays but padlocking gates so visitors cannot even head on the path to just see the outside of it is surely unnecessary. I couldn’t see it whatsoever due to a very high wall. They need to decide whether they want it to be public or not, and putting it on maps is not really helping that. To those who do want to visit you have the very limited time of 2-4pm on Sundays to visit (weather depending). A bit cheeky to also ask for donations too when you’re not...

We arrived to find it was unfortunately closed it has limited opening times but we were extremely lucky as three of the ladies who are trustees were working in the grounds and very kindly not only opened the chapel for us but also gave us a mini tour and talk on the history one of the ladies explained that they have limited resources to open daily but if anyone wishing to visit the chapel contacts their web site they will.do their best to accomodate4. The House in the Rock is the castle-looking building, just before you reach the chapel and not the actual chapel, as the pictures on this listing depict (that is Chapel of our Lady of the Crag). You have to look up higher and more to the left to see the House in the Rock.
