A Must in London: Paddington Basin is a vibrant and photogenic corner of London where the two Photolator photographers recently spent a few days capturing its unique blend of modern architecture and tranquil waterside charm. The area is a fascinating mix of sleek glass buildings, quirky footbridges, and peaceful canals, offering endless opportunities for creative compositions. Early mornings bring soft light reflecting off the water, while evenings glow with city lights and lively restaurants. The floating public spaces, colorful narrowboats, and occasional passing kayakers add life and texture to the scene. Beyond photography, the basin is perfect for relaxed walks, people-watching, and enjoying the calm just steps away from the bustle of central London. For photographers, it’s a location that rewards patience and an eye for detail — every hour brings a new mood to capture.

I never knew this place existed until I watched an episode of Landscape Artist of the Year! So I started off at the newly regenerated part just behind Paddington Station and then followed my nose. There are some impressive buildings, lots of eateries, including on canal boats and barges. I have made a promise to go back and have something to eat on board the cheese barge. I particularly liked some of the artwork that is on display. Some done professionally, some not. It just adds something to the area and gives you something of interest to see. I walked as far as Maida Vale and then turned off and headed for Portobello Road Market. On a nice sunny day it would be a beautiful walk for a couple of hours.

Seeing as though it will take probably a million and one years for the current redevelopment at Paddington to be completed, it is worth mentioning this space off the usual haunts of tourists. If staying around here...there is little to do in W2 apart from take in the architecture, streets and shops. But just a short sashay around the back of the main street (Praed) will land the visitor in this area of scenic beauty. Sure, it is a new development, but it is just stunning and- like Fulham reach, has a lot of statues and modern art thrown in - just to make sure that those buying the flats don't feel too duped.
