The human touches, such as the homemade scarf and the letter from home, set the War Memorial apart from many others. I have seen this statue many times over the decades but have only recently appreciated the small details. "Lest We Forget".

Located a good way down the side of Platform One, stands this statue of a thoughtful soldier, book in hand, a tear in his eye, remembering fallen comrades of the two world wars, many of whom served on the GWR. A fitting tribute to all those who should not be forgotten for what they gave for our today.
