I had an extremely disappointing and upsetting experience at shades I came in asking for my hair to be dyed a lighetr brown from my original hair coulor and to only dye the ends of my hair. Instead, I was left with a full head of patchy orange and blonde highlights that were nothing like what I asked for. Alasandera initially dismissed my request, saying what I wanted was “not achievable,” then proceeded to do her own thing, constantly cutting me off when I tried to explain my vision. left the salon with some awful ornage highlights and left humilated by friend and family, did not leave my house for days until my hair could be fixed and has had significant impact on my mental wellbeing.

When I complained, the manager, Alasandera, assured me that she would personally fix my hair. However, when I arrived at the appointment, she told me, "It is not possible to dye your hair back to its original colour."

If that's the case, how can you call yourselves colour specialists?

She then said she could dye my hair a brown colour that would be similar and not noticeable. But as you can see in the photos, the result looks very patchy and rushed. There are random blonde strands, and the colour is nowhere near my natural shade.

Additionally, despite promising in messages that she would be the one to work on my hair, but it was two other staff members instead. They seemed rushed and uncoordinated, despite there being no other clients in the salon at the time. The result was patchy, uneven coloring that I only fully noticed once I got home. Even at the salon, I could see they had missed several strands, which I pointed out, but they still failed to fix it properly. My natural hair is a very dark brown/black, and their attempt to restore it fell far short, leaving me with hair that I now have to redye myself once again. They completely wasted my time and failed to deliver on their promises. on their instagram it states 'dream hair = reality' thats far from it.

I showed the hairdresser a photo of the haircut I wanted. She said my hair was too short for it, but the style in the picture was actually on short hair — so that didn’t really make sense. All I asked for was some short side bangs, nothing drastic. In the end, she just gave me a trim, which isn’t a big deal. But the real issue is the colour — and that’s where things went seriously wrong.

To add insult to injury, one of the staff working on my hair made unsolicited and inappropriate comments about Arab culture, assuming I was Arab based solely on my skin color and black hair. This was incredibly rude, discriminatory, and unprofessional, making an already bad experience much worse.

For the £200 I paid, to get my hair done before my birthday as you can seee in the photos below it is far from what i asked for, I expected a professional service and a beautiful result, i only chose this place as they stated they were a 'coulor specialist' and i was very impressed by that but what I got was a disrespectful experience and hair I am embarrassed to be seen with. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Shades for highlights, and I must say that it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. As someone who has had various hair treatments in the past, I can confidently say that this salon truly stands out in terms of expertise, professionalism, and customer care.

I cannot recommend this place enough, I had a vision and these guys DELIVERED - 11/10, 110%, 7* - whatever you're scoring with, these guys are above the max!

They replied extremely promptly on WhatsApp and were clear with what was possible or not, as well as with pricing. Pricing was extremely reasonable for the time and effort spent. The staff were all SO friendly - they offered tea/coffee/biscuits and Nikki blow dried my hair with the utmost care and Rossella was so kind even after I was there quite close to closing time and caused everyone to have blue hands :( Alessandra was a HERO and the star of the show today, she was my colourist and spent literally 5 hours on my hair, arms covered in blue but still with a massive smile on her face. Her work speaks for itself, the balayage is seamless and the colour is exactly what I was looking for. In between waiting for my bleach/dye, she was also serving other customers and must have been so tired but was still so friendly - thank you so much! Haircut/trim was done by the boss-man who's name I didn't catch - he looked at the photo and cut exactly like it, thank you so much! From what I could tell, all the haircuts here are also excellent - everyone walked out more attractive than they came in (both men and women).
