It had us with the aroma first we walked past it. So the question now wasn't IF but, WHEN were we going to eat here. Finally, went there for a quick meal last night and were in for some delicious delights. Sat out, as that's the only option with Covid but strategically placed gas lit heaters made sure all guests were comfy and well shielded from the cold winds. And if you still couldn't hack the cold, there were blankets too. Waiters were friendly, courteous, patiently explained & recommended dishes based on preferences, if that's what you wanted. End result, pure joy and a bit of greed, can't help that one with food so enticing. We were starving so hit the mains straight - Chana Masala, Paneer Potli Masala and selection of breads. It came with Lachcha Pyaaz - shredded onion salad (sign of authenticity), that won the wife's heart! The curries were bang on authentic, and when I say they are, you better take my word for it, cause you won't find a soul more pedantic in matters of taste. For dessert we had Mango Shrikhand, and you can't, I repeat, you can't leave without having the Mango Shrikhand or you might just land yourself with a curse that brings a streak of bad meals for letting go of an opportunity to taste what dessert might taste like in heaven. Added to my list of favourites, going to revisit and try the many more amazing flavours that take me home with every gorgeous little piece of perfection I bite...
Read morePotli is one of the best if not the best Indian restaurant in London. My wife and I dined here in October and loved it so much I brought my curry club back in November. 15 guys who all know a good curry and not afraid to shout when the don't get one. They were shouting this time but it was about how great the food was. We were very impressed with the entire meal. The mixed vegetable pakora is a must have if you go (and you must go). The chicken tikka trio is tender and flavorful and the Lamb Hara Masala and Achari Baingan will be definite staples when we return.
For a pre-starter you have to try the Bhel Puri. it is a dish made with puffed rice that is really unique and it was a hit with the whole club.
If the food alone does not get you here, Potli has the staff to match. The manager that helped me organize the night, Uttam Tripathy is great. He (and the others) made sure we were well taken care of and not just because we were a large party, when I dined there with my wife, they were the same. I could not say enough good things about them but I can give you an example. When we left the restaurant after our amazing dinner, our group went to a pub about 4 blocks down from the restaurant. My wife had left her purse in the restaurant and they went pub to pub until they found her and returned her purse. Genuinely great people and they have customers for life, from the...
Read moreGood food, good drinks and what would have been a good end to an awesome Bank Holiday weekend was turned into a disaster by Aashish at Potli. To be told mid meal- please get up from your chair and try to squeeze into an already full area so they could sit more people in the restaurant is just shocking. I have never come across anyone in the Hospitality Industry who has an attitude as shameful and disgraceful as this person. We were a group of 6, had ordered sufficient amount of food/drinks that would have garnered a very good service charge for everyone working at the restaurant. Instead, we all barely ate anything and left with a sour taste in our mouths at being treated so poorly by the staff. To try and squash people together to fit more and more in a restaurant so that no one can eat properly is no ones idea of good customer service but I guess good customer service is the one thing missing from the menu at Potli. I went to Eat out and Help out but it was pretty clear from Ashish's horrible, argumentative and rude attitude that Potli doesn't need any help. So I will take my business to a restaurant that will value its customers. Save yourself the hassle, embarrassment, humiliation and just go to Dishoom, Bombay Bustle, Roti Chai, or Madhus- depending on which part of...
