I am writing to express my frustration and sadness regarding a deeply troubling experience I had at My active Crofton Hall yesterday Thursday 03/04/2025. This incident left me feeling unwelcome, disrespected, and marginalized, highlighting a broader issue within your establishment.
During my visit, I was approached by a trainer named Matt, who loudly confronted me in front of other gym members, demanding that I leave the facility with my child, who was peacefully settled in a buggy and not disturbing anyone. It was particularly distressing that my child, who holds his own membership within the My Active network, was treated in such a dismissive manner. The lack of privacy and respect shown towards both myself and my child during this interaction was not only inappropriate but also humiliating.
As a facility that promotes health and well-being, I expected to feel safe and supported while exercising with my child. Instead, the treatment I received stood in stark contrast to the welcoming and friendly environment that My Active advertises. Rather than fostering an inclusive space, I felt excluded and marginalized as a woman with a young child. This is simply unacceptable.
My child is currently preparing for an exercise class and is learning about fitness and health. His interest in participating is growing, and observing the classes helps foster that interest. Additionally, he is not running around the gym; he is there to observe and engage positively. It's important to note that my husband and I are the only caregivers available to him, and we are both committed to ensuring he has a supportive environment as he navigates his fitness journey.
Unfortunately, the handling of this situation was particularly hurtful for me. I have been battling depression and an autoimmune disease, specifically juvenile arthritis, which makes regular physical activity crucial for my well-being. The effort I put into being present at the gym is significant; I wake up early and make necessary adjustments to my day to be there. Thus, being told I was not welcome felt like a direct negation of those efforts.
I believe that a little empathy could go a long way in such situations. Understanding the context of a member’s situation, especially for those of us managing health challenges, could foster a more inclusive and welcoming environment at Gym's.
I urge you to consider implementing guidelines or training for your staff to promote a more respectful and inclusive environment. It saddens me to think that a place meant for fitness and community can foster such an atmosphere of disrespect. I sincerely hope that my experience will lead to positive changes that reflect the values of respect and inclusivity...
Read moreMy experience at the Walnut Leisure Centre swimming area was mixed. While the pool itself offers a pleasant environment for leisurely swimming, there are significant maintenance issues with the shower cubicles, particularly in the women's area. Out of the three cubicles, one doesn't close properly, and the drain hole in another is loose, posing safety hazards. During my visit, my four-year-old was washing, and her foot slipped in the drain hole, her leg got caught in the loose drain hole, which was distressing. Additionally, there were hair clumps all over the floor and on the inside of the cubicles, as well as scum and significant discoloration that needs deep cleaning. The pool itself could do with attention around the ladder area and general cleaning on the floor, as when my four-year-olds towel dragged, it was immediately covered in grey sludge and she could not use it. The shower cubicles lean to one side , don't close properly and need urgent attention to ensure visitors' safety and comfort, especially for those with young children. Despite these concerns, the pool area provides a decent space for...
Read moreOue first visit here. The grandchildren loved the soft play layout and want to go again. I won't be going back though.
Very cramped. There's not much seating area and tables are quickly filled. Some of the grown ups had to sit beneath the soft play platform in a 'picnic space' that's dark. We sat on a small table next to this space. Drops of rain were splashing on the table from the glass roof which was leaking.
They only accepted card payment. Refreshments are very limited and available from check in area.
The ladies toilet was so disgusting that l decided not to use them. There is obviously no supervision cleaning. The toilets and floor were overflowing with reams of used toilet paper and they stank.
My advice - get there early to get a table and use the toilet before it gets disgusting, don't sit on the righthand side table when it's raining.
My overall impression - extremely cramped and delapidated. Needs a...
