I arrived with my disabled wife who has breathing difficulties and by BLIND father in-law.. white stick and black out glasses the lot... they both have disability badges but on arrival we were refused the disability fee because their badges were out of date (both order at the same time) and due to "technical issues" the council have a 6 week backlog of badges... and the man on the gate, Mr Jobsworth... really didn't care, he basically told us, "I don't care that you're obviously disabled, if your card is out of date you aren't allowed to be blind or dying from a lung disease anymore. And besides all that, most of the traders are selling at shop prices, not like it used to be. And ive been going for around 20 years! I'll give it a miss after...
Read moreWell it's a great Sunday day out for browsing for things that you want at reasonable prices with the family, fruit, veg, tools old and new along with a varied amounts new cloths and work safety wear, footwear and lots lots more. As long as the rain keeps away you can also get your daily 'steps' in whether you are scouting the indoor or out door stalls. And when you have done your walking exercise then you can sit relax and tuck into a delicious kebab sandwich and chips 🤣 one of many food outlets. Only a few draw backs, all stalls to my knowledge cash only though you can pay by card if you want to park your vehicle inside the Smithfield market, cost £2 per car. I do think that they should have a cash machine at least somewhere close...
Read moreVery, very busy, so many stalls, car boots to visit. I never expected it to be so busy. I saw stall holders looking out for each other, all were friendly. We went to see my cousin on her stall, the guy in the next stall sold a chair/bed to a man who hadn't transport. The seller and my cousin helped to carry it to the market entrance, so the man could call a taxi. (My car was too small). The taxi refused to take the chair/bed. The man came back, a bit upset. My cousin told him she would go home, empty her car, and come back for him. How nice is she? We helped her pack up in half the time and she let us know when she'd dropped the chair/bed off.
