I recently had an awful experience at Tesco with a self-checkout employee. Never managed to get her name but she was a woman in her 40s, appeared to be of Indian descent, and was incredibly rude. We tried to buy Red Bull, and despite being well over 16, she claimed we didnât look old enough. She refused to accept digital IDs, forcing us to walk all the way back to our apartment to retrieve our physical IDs.
When we returned and showed our IDs, she refused service again, citing some made-up excuse about needing IDs for the people we were shopping with, implying we might share the Red Bull with them. It was absurd. She made us wait for several minutes while she helped every other customer but us. Finally, she said sheâd âmake an exceptionâ for us, as though she was doing us a favor.
This kind of behavior is unacceptable, and Tesco needs to seriously reconsider keeping staff who treat customers this way. It was a humiliating and frustrating experience that left us feeling unwelcome. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the...
Read moreIt's the biggest Tesco in the cc so I go there regularly. Carol who works on the self serve checkouts is lovely and friendly :) she always takes the time to say hello and ask about our day, more staff like that please :) Don't know what it is with their escalators but they keep going out of use. I've also picked up parcels from here that I've ordered on the Tesco click and collect website, it's always a circus when I pick up parcels from here, there's this one woman on the manned checkouts (also where you go for click and collect) who is very loud and rude and I don't like it. I'm made to feel like an inconvenience when I go to pick up a parcel. Also once this young lady was trying to help me pick up my parcel but she didn't really know what to do and the other member of staff kept mocking her and the poor lady kept asking over and over how to be shown to do it, I felt so sorry for her. Also keeping the quorn stuff next to the raw meat is...
Read moreI had a very unpleasant experience at Tesco on 11 Oct 2025. After buying a gift card for my friend, a female staff member came over and questioned me about whether I had scanned my Clubcard and what payment method I used. She then told me I shouldnât have scanned my Clubcard and that using a gift card to buy another gift card was âa crime.â I was shocked, I have never heard of such a rule, and it isnât mentioned anywhere in Tescoâs terms and conditions.
What made it worse was how she spoke to me , I couldnât help but feel that I was being treated differently because I am Asian. It was humiliating and completely unnecessary. If that purchase wasnât allowed, I would have been happy to void the transaction and pay another way.
Tesco should seriously look into staff training on proper communication and anti-discrimination. No customer deserves to be made to...
