Yo! Grab yourself some Sushi (& lots of other things) at Yo! Sushi

We’re not really fans of sushi, primarily the raw fish kind, and haven’t tried it in a while. However, as your tastebuds generally change every few years, we thought we had to give Yo! Sushi a shot as they had very kindly asked us to pop by to try out their Christmas options - Vegan nuggets enticed us. So, off we went to Yo! Sushi in Manchester Arndale and found a variety of items on offer. It’s one of those places where you can grab yourself a snack or a full meal, so it’s got something for everyone.

The uniqueness of Yo! Sushi is the belt that sends round lots of little dishes to entice you and hits a wide variety of your taste cravings. We tried a few items from the belt and ordered some off the main menu. The belt is all colour coded to indicate the price and the menu provides the pictures of what you’re getting, so you know what your dish should look like.

Off the belt, we got; Yasai Rolls [£3.20] - Was expecting this to just be ok, but we were pleasantly surprised with the teriyaki & vegan mayo making this taste delicious Cucumber Maki Rolls [£2.50] - Good, standard sushi item for those of us who aren’t adventurous with the raw fish options

From the mains; Vegetable Gyoza [£3.20] - Right level of crunchy on the outside and then soft in the middle. This is perfect for that light starter to get you in the mood for eating Mushroom Teriyaki Burger [£4] - The very nicely soft bao buns filled with warm mushrooms of the right texture and coated in teriyaki sauce. Loved this bite-sized, yet ever so filling scoff-able item Yo! Fries [£3.20] - Who knew fries could be so exciting, and this was gorgeously tasting with the right amount of chilli and sauce and fries size. It was the kind of dish that you fight to get that last bit, which we did obviously :D Vegan Christmas Festive Box [£8.50] - Vegan nuggets with chilli coated fries, sweetcorn and some salad making it a good, old meal combo (& perfect for those friends who like to stick to what they know)

We then went back to the belt for desserts of; Chocolate Mochi [£4.70] - Looking at this, you expect it to be more truffle-like with a hard shell. And no, it was not with it’s gooey, squidgy, stretchy and chocolatey rice-made goodness. One of these was the right amount Japanese Cheesecake [£5.20] - Fluffy cheesecake, need we say more Dorayaki Pancake [£4.20] - This was nice, but the other two were more preferable for us. The raspberry coulis provided a nice tang

Next time we’re out shopping, and we fancy a quick, but hearty snack Yo! Sushi is now on our list of go-to places.

Not the greatest experience at Yo-Sushi. Visited this restaurant with my friend and had horrendous service from what seemed to be the manager. Firstly, when originally taking our order my friend asked for a dish that seemed to not be on his iPad. He said he had it in stock and then disappeared to find out. He didn’t return or mention that they did or didn’t have it in stock. I wasn’t even able to order my dish. We then managed to find him again to ask if I could now order. I asked for a salad dish that he then said was supposed to be on the conveyer belt. He then disappeared again to find this dish, and then realised it wasn’t on the belt. Again he didn’t come over and say he was putting the order through and AGAIN I didn’t order everything I wanted. I asked a different waiter if I could continue my order and he was very lovely.

The food was lovely but when it came to the bill, that was whole other story. We asked the manager for the bill and he came over with an iPad for us to fill in a review. He then was calculating the prices and said that service charge was included and didn’t really give us a chance to take it off. He then held out the machine to pay whilst we were still filling out the review. I asked to see the bill because what kind of restaurant doesn’t let you see the bill before you pay for something? I also didn’t even have the chance to say we had the UNIDAYS app and when I did, he sighed and said that I needed to mention that. He then looked at me to read out the number even though I was showing him the phone. When i began to read the number he snapped at me saying it was an old number and needed to refresh the app.

I’ve been part of management at a few different restaurants, I understand how sometimes people have bad days, but this was slightly inexcusable. This was rude service and made myself and my friend very uncomfortable, which is a shame...

My recent visit to Yo Sushi was an experience marred by multiple disappointments. While the food itself was somewhat enjoyable, the overall ambiance and attention to detail left much to be desired.

One of the most concerning aspects was the blatant disregard for hygiene standards observed during my meal. I witnessed staff members cutting plastic-wrapped cucumbers without bothering to remove the wrapping and then proceed to prepare it to be used in dishes without being washed raised serious concerns about the kitchen's cleanliness practices.

Adding to my disappointment was the presentation of the pumpkin katsu curry, which fell far short of its advertised image. Instead of the carefully arranged dish depicted in the menu, what arrived at my table was a sloppy mess, with the curry carelessly poured over the rice, resulting in a mushy, unappetizing mixture. There wasn't any rice not drenched in the sauce (picture attached).

What's more, the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was further dampened by the worn-out and heavily scratched glasses and cutlery provided. This not only detracted from the dining experience but also gave the impression of a neglected establishment that did not match the prices listed on the bill.

To top it off, the most concerning aspect of the entire ordeal was the stomach issues I developed after the meal. Having consumed nothing else that day, I can only attribute the discomfort to the food served at Yo Sushi. Especially having seen the cucumbers being prepared I am genuinely worries what else could have happened.

While the sushi itself was tasty, the numerous issues encountered during my visit, including hygiene concerns, subpar presentation and discomfort afterward, left me disappointed and unlikely to return. Which is a shame as the staff were amazing and went out of their way to try and let us have...

I had an interesting experience at this place. I eat halal, vegetarian and vegan foods. When we arrived, we asked if the food was halal. The server told us she was unsure so she asked the manager. She came back and said the beef is not halal but the chicken is. HOWEVER, the chicken is cooked in the same oil as the beef, therefore it CANNOT be eaten as a “halal” option. I also asked if any of the food had alcohol or wine vinegar. She went again to ask the manager :( When she returned, she said the soy sauce in-house has no alcohol, but the takeaway soy sauce DOES have alcohol. Also, some of the foods HAVE alcohol in so she said to ask her about those options when we would come to order our food. The Salmon was safe to eat so we ordered the salmon selection plate, and the dessert pancakes which came with raspberry sauce. The salmon selection was much smaller than we thought. The bowl was smaller than my hand :( There is a conveyor belt with different foods on it, and the prices of the foods did not match the prices on the menu. I asked one of the servers why this was, and she did not know. On the menu, the cost of the food on the conveyor belt is colour coded. However, we never found out why those items were so overpriced compared to what was written in the menu. The food itself was tasty, and you could tell it was made with quality fresh ingredients. I just wish there was more of it. I did like how you can see the chefs preparing the food while you eat. I would recommend trying this place at least once for the experience, but definitely split the bill as it can get quite expensive if you want a hearty meal.
