Usually we thoroughly enjoy every aspect that the Cluny has to offer, from the atmosphere to the amazing food, but unfortunately today the experience wasn't so great. We came with a friend visiting from France, to show off the home cooked comfort food, which she loves. We also had our 2 children in tow.
The place was full when we arrived, and although I was advised there would be a wee wait for the food-which was understandable with how busy it was-we didn't expect to be sat over an hour later, still hungry with 2 children getting increasingly agitated.
My husband asked where our food was, only to be told we were next... Which was frustrating given we'd watched other tables around being served their meals that they'd ordered well after us.
Anyway. When the food arrived, my husbands burger was cold, and chips barely warm. The sharing plate of halloumi fries had clearly been sat for some time as they were tough and just warm too.
As for the kids meals, one didn't even turn up. I appreciate it was busy and errors can be made, but my 8 year old was left while the rest of us had been given our meals. We hadn't ordered two different kids meals either, two portions of exactly the same thing. The mashed potato on my 3 year olds plate was, what can only be described as 'laced' with pepper, rendering it inedible.
My husband called over a member of staff to complain, who took his burger away to have it replaced, and to chase up my sons food. In way of apology they offered us drinks and free ice creams for the children, which was kind however after all that time waiting then given mediocre meals which were normally fantastic, we just wanted the children fed and to leave. We asked for a plate of chips instead, which came shortly after my sons meal arrived.
We usually love coming here but after today I'm not sure we will be returning for a while, and especially not on a Saturday when...
Read moreIt's a warm summers eve. Me and my partner are on a beautiful bike ride and I spot this little pub out the corner of my eye. I peddle past and the smell draws me in. We lock our bikes up near the library and walk into The Cluny. Immediately greeted with smiles and "Can I help you". Beautiful service. The Argentina vs Nigeria game on in the other room which was darkened and the match on a projector screen. Stunning game, Nigeria should have won, played great. That's besides the point.
I take a seat near the door on the left, table 5 whilst my partner partakes in the facilities. I look at the menu and see reasonably priced food. I ordered the Cluny burger and a pint of Amstel, no Amstel. Birra Moretti it is. I take a seat, a sip of my drink (more like a gulp) and take in the surroundings. Posters of bands played, bands coming up, specials menu, specials ice cream menu, some yellow and red rubber ducks with peoples name on them. (Can you find the red one). Why? The food arrives, it smells great. I take handle full of fries...are these McDonalds fries? The first bite of the burger was filled with flavour, the sauce is amazing. I demolished the burger and fries, finish my drink and order some vegan ice cream for my partner. The ice cream was delicious. We left 2 pints down, great food and amazing friendly service.
My only downside is there is no additional sauce for the tables, I do like mayo with my fries but overall amazing. Will be coming back and will be bringing friends and family!. See...
Read moreI very rarely enjoy burgers at pubs, the meat can be frozen or of such poor quality that it doesnt matter how fancy a bun or sauce you pair it with is. I can happily report this is not the case at the Cluny. Thier burger patty was tasty and had that solid but juicy texture you pu want. I had the nacho burger and the cheese sauce was a perfect companion to the beef and the tortilla chips added a great crunch. The staff were awesome and were happy to accomodate my girlfriend who was vegan by allowing her to mix and match between two dishes. This is why indy pubs are better than your high steet venues; they have a great menu and have obviously taken care over every component of each menu item. The guys next to us had a nacho sharing platter that was huge, a meal in itself. Dont even get me started on the beers, they had a great selection of ale and larger as well as some specialty IPA ranging from the very good cluny session ipa through to some very big beers going up ranging 7 to 8%. there was a bit of a wait but they were busy when we went and the food arrived hot and the order correct. We...
