I have been to this lovely restaurant twice and so my photos were from both of the visits. First time I came was back in 2021 and the second time was last Saturday. Both times we came for dinner so can't comment on their daytime menu.
I was visiting my friend in Newcastle for the weekend and she recommended this place for us to try together as she had already been multiple times and had thought the food and overall experience was great. I know they were on the Michelin guide a few years in a roll so I was really looking forward to trying it out. My first time there was absolutely fantastic, great experience all the way from greeting at the reception to sitting down, ordering and paying. Staff members were very friendly and nice, took the time to explain the menu to us.
On the first visit, we had the shrimp salad as a starter and then for mains we ordered the lamb chop with cous cous and mussels with a side of potatoes. The salad was refreshing and a great way to stimulate our appetites. The lamb was absolutely fantastic, so savoury and not gamey at all.
Second visit we had the brown shrimp salad with blood orange which was once again super refreshing and stimulating. Mains we went with roast pork shoulder and braised is cheeks. The pork shoulder was absolutely delightful, crunchy crackling and tender meat. The apple sauce and potatoes were such a great complement to the meat and really pleasant. The ox cheeks were also soft and tender, particularly enjoyed the beetroot on the side with their dill pesto, so savoury. We enjoyed both but we agreed the pork was the highlight. For dessert we ordered the earl grey poached pear with chocolate and walnut ganache which was lovely. Such an interesting combination of flavours yet they somehow worked. That tea flavour coming through in your month balancing with the rich dark chocolate ganache made it so moreish and easy to eat. Absolutely not too sweet and it's just a light dessert to nicely wrap up our dinner.
On both times we thoroughly enjoyed our visits there and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good restaurants in Newcastle. They change menus regularly so you can always get excited for what they will cook on the day. I am already looking forward to coming...
Read moreWe were charged 12.5% of the service charge when the service we were offered was way below expectation. I was utterly disappointed with the service and attitude, if I knew that was happening, I would have taken off on Saturday night. Unfortunately the bill was all paid by my fiancé who was actually quite drunk without reading too much into it.
There were few reasons why we were disappointed with the service and I'm actually gutted that we had to pay so much service charge for it.
First of all, a full glass of my sparkling wine was spilled everywhere when one of the waiters was collecting all the plates and cutlery in. He dropped the cutlery, broke my wine glass and got the wine all over my friend and my outfit. No apology was given and the napkins that we've used to clean it up for him weren't replaced either. Soon after that, we had to order more wine ourselves and request for an extra glass to replace my broken one. Nothing was offered by him to replace the full wine that he spilled everywhere.
Secondly, when we asked them to help us take some group photos, they rolled their eyes at us before taking them and everyone saw it.
I couldn't help but wonder if this is the typical service standard that you offer on a daily basis.
We have actually feedback these to the owner, however we only received tons of excuses and no apology. Will not come back even the food was amazing.

Read moreWith an origin story that involves a converted shipping container in Ouseburn, as well as a mission statement that speaks of using locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients, Cook House presents a very relevant interpretation of taking pride in what you believe in. Which, obviously, is nice. But more importantly, these guys know how to cook. After a three-and-a-half year stint in their original premises, Cook House has recently opened up in a new Ouseburn setting just down the street, boasting the ability to handle more covers as well as a host of other benefits.
Offerings change regularly, but expect dishes such as whipped feta on sourdough, and a N'duja eggs. Word has spread, so book a table or arrive in good time to guarantee yourself a table bar.
It offers a relaxed vibe, a pared-back interior, and the food is seriously good, with fuss-free, colourful and exceptionally tasty plates at great prices. I would recommend going with a group so you can try everything...
