One of, if not the best hotel in Newcastle. We stayed at Dakota Newcastle for almost 2 weeks on a return trip home to visit family. We primarily booked the hotel as it was one of the few in the city that had AC and it was a great choice!
The decor is really tastefully done with high quality finish. The beds are super comfortable. The decor overall is done in a dark style which might not be everyone’s taste but we loved it.
The first room we were in was probably a bogey room as they allowed us to check in early after a very long journey to the UK so we were exhausted. It was on the first floor at the end of the corridor (104) so the window looked out onto some steps outside where people passed by so you couldn’t open the blinds. We left for one night to try out Dakota Manchester and when we came back we asked for a room on a higher floor and that one was way better. So I’d recommend asking for a higher floor when you book if possible. Nothing wrong with the first room but the other was just way better for the same price.
Staff were all really great, but a special mention goes to Ibrahim in the bar. He noticed on our first day we were studying Japanese and the following day he had learnt a couple of words to use to us. Something small but really stuck out to us. He also asked and remembered our names as well as our drinks order every night. It showed he really cared about his job and looking after customers/guests.
We were there over Great North Run weekend as well and they even gave away free bottles of water, bananas and protein bars for the runners.
Location is good too, right across from the pitcher & piano so easy access to Ouseburn as well as all quayside bars and restaurants as well as the city centre a short walk away. Perfect location for a walk along the river.
The only downside is the hotel isn’t pet friendly, even though they have the cutie Howie on the door to greet you (not a real dog). We usually travel everywhere with our Westie (this was a last minute trip so he couldn’t make it) but it means next time we visit we won’t be able to stay here so that’s a big shame. If we are ever in town again without him we’ll stay here for sure (and if they change the policy!)
Thanks again for a wonderful...

I contacted Tom on Concierge regarding a transfer down from the train station as the weather was looking a bit uncertain. Tom arranged this and picked us up personally from the train station, a lovely warm and friendly welcome.
We were an early arrival, so our room was not ready, but Reception looked after our bags and we headed out, we received an email when the room was ready.
We arrived back to find a lovely luxurious room; we had booked a junior suite so had high expectations. We pushed the boat out with it being our Anniversary! Very spacious bedroom and bathroom, there was a large walk-in shower and a bath. The mini bar is complimentary in the suites but did not have a wide variety in there. When Reception called the room to ask what time we wanted turn down, I queried this and they said you don't get that in that room type which I queried again as it was advertised when booking so I had spoken to the Hotel regarding this prior to arrival. In the end we got a couple of beers, a small bottle of white and a small bottle of red. There was an excellent selection of teas and coffee including a coffee machine with pods. There was also fresh milk provided in the mini bar. Turn down was a lovely little touch. Wonderful room, highly recommend.
We did not have breakfast at the Hotel or dine in the Grill so I cannot comment on those aspects. We did however use the bar, which is a lovely, chilled environment to be in, with friendly staff who cannot do enough for you. One thing I would say there was not much choice in the lager selection, it would have been nice to have more choice. Plenty of choice in wines and spirits though. The gin and tonic hit the spot!
Lastly, Fiona from Housekeeping is an absolute credit to your team! We do not normally have much interaction with housekeeping, so it was a nice, pleasant change, so warm, friendly and charming. Thank you for looking after us.
We have stayed at the one in Manchester and often frequent the one in Leeds and I can say the consistency you offer is of a high standard throughout your brand and we will continue to return to...
Read moreWhat an exciting addition to Newcastle. Stayed here for our anniversary which the hotel acknowledged and treated us to a complimentary upgrade, glass of champagne, decorated plate with sweet treats and a handwritten card in our room - all of which were extremely generous and most welcomed. From the exterior we knew this was going to be somewhere special, we weren’t wrong. The amazing attention to detail throughout the whole hotel’s decor was superb and everywhere was immaculate. Our room was incredibly spacious, with absolutely everything we needed for a very relaxing comfortable stay. Best night sleep ever as the mattress and pillows were heavenly. I was really impressed with the blackout curtains, not a shred of light came through. On to the staff, WOW, we really felt valued, superbly guest orientated that came across as genuine and not just their job role, they all put 100% effort into guest satisfaction in a very professional but friendly way. We took dinner on our stay in The Grill, again can’t praise enough the staff but also the food in it’s presentation and taste, it was far superior to independent restaurants in the area (there are many!) - definitely a 5* experience.|The experience has left us so full of praise for this delightful hotel ethic we will definitely return to not just for a celebration but as soon and often as we can. It’s total relaxation and being made to feel special is a big factor in the desire to return. Special mentions to the staff we had more interaction with, Alex and Ginny at dinner, Lucy on reception, Charlie at breakfast and so sorry I can’t remember the gentleman’s name but the concierge on departure, all assets to the hotel, as I’m sure all staff are too. Thank you for an...
