A beautiful and large series of fields all connected together (you have coopers field and Llandaff fields next to this one) and there's also the Taffs trail right next to it (near the riding stables). There's a lot to see and do. But it's especially nice to be able to go somewhere with no traffic and little concrete or tarmac. It puts parks in other cities to shame just with its large size and how well it's normally kept. There's normally football or rugby posts or cricket markings on the fields themselves so it's good for sports players.
Things to note: I recommend that you visit during the week. It gets very busy on the weekend with people travelling a cross the city to visit. Parking will also be more difficult on the weekends, especially if your looking for free parking People often have picnics on the weekend, causing the bins to be full. Keep in mind the park is often policed and I have seen them pounce on people and fining them for littering, so best course of action is to take your rubbish with you. Like the rest of Cardiff dangerous cyclists are a really problem here. They go very quick with little regard for walkers, children or pets. Some are also confrontational, even when they're in the wrong. Be careful on and off the paths and remember to picture and report any dangerous cycling. This might force the council to do...
Read moreOne of the best parks in South Wales & one I am very fond of, as my allotments is part of it. Wide open well maintained green spaces. Great for picnicking or kicking a ball about. There's a fenced off children's area & a new childrens park is being built at the moment(1/6/17) Wild flower areas that are allowed to grow without being maintained, giving wildlife a chance of making a permanent home. There's a fantastic variety of fruit & fungi too, if you're prepared to forage for it. Lots of wildlife. Cricket, football & rugby pitches. With changing rooms & parking. There's a stable & horse riding school. The River Taff runs through it. Some of the finest mature trees run the full length of the avenue. There's even a cafe for all your refreshments & both hot & cold food is available. Many people walk their dogs there. It has excellent cycling paths & you can hire lots of different types of bikes & trikes, some specially adapted for disabled people. Joggers, runners & walkers all use it daily. Plus, there's a well hidden & peaceful caravan park with all amenities available. And all of this is only 1.5 miles from the city. The Eisteddfod was held there a few years ago & at the moment it is covered in various sized tents to accommodate some of the 170,000 football fans that will decend upon the city this weekend for the...
Read moreThe Fields are fine and very popular. I was unimpressed with the council run caravan and motor home camping site. Plus points flat level pitches, excellent cafe, 20 mins level walk to city centre. Minus points, site is not secure for campers. Not really suitable for awnings, gravel pitches are of fine grit which walks in every where. Shower blocks are tired and need a refit, hot water is not hot enough for dish washing and could be a legionnaire issue. At £30 a night it's poor value. On events days it's £40 and was sold out for the Rugby match so someone is making lots of money. Won't stay...
