Visited on Easter Sunday around 12:30, just hoping to grab a quick bite before walking my dog in Llandaf Field. I asked the barman—who seemed to be the manager or someone in charge—whether I could eat outside. He told me that food was only being served inside, specifically in the restaurant area at the back of the pub.
About 10 minutes later, a family of four arrived and sat at our bench outside with menus and cutlery. I assumed someone would let them know that outdoor dining wasn’t available, but then their food arrived!
I went back in to double-check, this time asking a different barman. Before he could respond, the first gentleman stepped in and explained: “Those customers booked in advance, which is why they’re allowed to eat outside. Our kitchen is only able to handle pre-booked customers at the moment.”
A bit confusing at first, but I appreciated the clarification in the end. That said, for those of you who have been here before—have you been able to eat outside at the front without booking in advance? I can’t help but feel I was treated unfairly in...
Read moreA well-established and popular gastropub with a traditional "pubby" end and one end for eating. Beer selection is generally good with an emphasis on the currently fashionable super-IPA's - but always including the truly dreadful Greene King IPA. Service is always quick and polite. This is a very professional establishment. Menu is a mix of traditional gastropub favourites and more adventurous dishes. Vegetarian options always available but are not usually up to the standard of the rest of the menu, and expensive - £13 for a pearl barley risotto which we found tasteless and boring is too much money. I've been going to The Conway in its various guises for about 25 years now and have always enjoyed my time there. Dogs welcome in the drinking zone, children's toys and comfy sofas, outside seating on street. I...
Read moreWe went here for Sunday lunch with family and each of us ordered a different dish: the roast pork dinner; the beef dinner and the hake. Each meal was quite pleasant but you only get new potatoes and a small amount of samphire(?) with the hake which was also quite small in size. I am always disappointed when I get a roast dinner and don’t get a Yorkshire pudding with it – I know that traditionally they only come with roast beef meals but it would have been nice to have had one with my pork, which I found a little chewy. However, the seasonal vegetables and the sauce that accompanied the meal was delicious. The atmosphere was also quite pleasant as the pub is light and airy and the staff...
