Addison Village Offices — Local services in Addison Township

🛑 I need to speak up about something that really bothered me.

I attended two concerts in Addison recently one featuring a Black group and another featuring a white tribute band and what I experienced was unsettling.

At the first show (the Black performers), there was a large black object hanging down in front of the stage. The way it was placed, directly above the performers..gave off an eerie, disturbing vibe. It looked too much like a noose or lynching setup. I’m not saying it was intentional, but the imagery was loud, and it was deeply upsetting.

At the second concert (the white group), that same hanging structure was gone. The setup looked much cleaner, more open, and felt more respectful overall.

How are we still letting things like this happen in 2025? It may not have been on purpose, but someone approved it. Someone hung it up. And no one stopped to think how that might look or more importantly how that might feel.

All artists deserve to perform without being subjected to triggering or racially insensitive setups.

Look at the difference for yourself. Same stage. Same venue. Two very different messages.

Do better, Addison. We see it. We feel it.

Today, September 8, 2022 around 10:00 AM, an inspector from the Village of Addison came into my apartment. I did not receive notice from the landlord or inspector. Neither of them knocked, and opened my door and came inside. I called the office about this, and the woman on the phone said she would call me back and never did. The inpector was giving attitude to my daughter and friend. He was asking personal questions about their age, and why they were sleeping in the living room. My daughter and friend were in underwear and not dressed properly and felt uncomftorable.So was my son. He was rude and started walking around the house without telling them what they were doing. Called my daughter by her age and not her name, being disrespectful. I need the inspectors name so I can put a complaint about him giving attitude with my daughter and friend, and tresspassing...
