I bought a pair of sneakers, and though I like them I changed my mind and went to the store to exchange them. There a GenZ gentleman younger than my son informed me that I cannot return them, only exchange them or get store credit, per store policy. I said that I just bought them yesterday and I have the receipt but again he cited store policy. He said it is posted in small letters on the counter, and also on the receipt, neither of which I read. Is this a policy that is something new in retail? I have shopped at some of the best stores in many countries and have never heard of such a policy. The store posted on social media that they will send people that lined up before 10am to the back of the line. When the store opened, they did not stick to their word and did not do anything about the early people in queue. Anyone that actually followed the rule and questioned “why?” were told to with “get back in line if you want a chance for the shoes” which of course, we didn’t because we were already in the back.
